During his thirteen years at Trinity-Pawling, Mr. Smith has been a teacher, coach, advisor, College Placement Director, Assistant Headmaster, and most importantly, a friend to everyone in the school community. He has the ability to maintain the student body’s respect by uniquely balancing their needs with those of the school. It is with great pleasure that we, the Class of 1988, dedicate our 'Trinitannus to Archibald A. Smith, III. Your dedication and concern has touched each one of us at some time or other, and we gratefully appreciate it. 16 18 Michael and Jean Brennan Family Maria Buteux Edward and Helen Hauser Family John Schaper Mary Jane Odell John and Margret Taylor Family 25 Barbara Carlson Brian Foster Kenneth and Carol Nealy Family 26 Viola Perrill Neal Elizabeth Cousins John Elizabeth Hutchinson Family Rev. While this record was not what the team and coaches had hoped for, the team played hard all season. Erik Scott and Tom Halleron were the team captains and supplied fine leadership throughout the season. Mark Knepshield and Erik Scott both received the coaches award for their overall contribution to the team. Mark Horncastle received the Annual award for his outstanding physical and mental play for the 1987 season. Seniors Chales Este, Geoff Partel, Bret Livingston, and Aaron Bierman contributed greatly throughout the whole season and will be missed. For next year’s football season, Tom Halleron, Steve Dora, and Greg Steele were elected captains to supply leadership for the team in the upcoming 1988 season. More than half of the starting squad this season consisted of juniors who are all anticipating an excellent season in 1988. The players would like to thank the coaches Mr. Coratti, Mr. Henry, and Mr. Hutchinson for their dedication and success for a fun season. VARSITY FOOTBALL Front Row. P. Dow. E. Bierman. C. Esty. T. Six games this season, the team lost by one goal. After an extremely intensely, close game, T-P always came up short by one or two goals. The team was led by Captains Dan Bracken and Geep Oliver. Other returning players were Gordon Fales, Bob Tansill, Chuck Aprill, Perry Keys, and Marc Daniels. Bob and Chuck led the offense, while Perry Keys held the midfield. Gordon Fales, did a fine job at stopper. Jay Walker was probably one of the top goal keepers in the league. Other players were Jerry McCa-gue, David Cressman, David Smith, Cliff Gurnham, John Corrigan, Seamus Collins, Juan Bacardi, Mitch Inness, Jeff Pierce, Walter Wright, and Phillip Sisk. Although the record doesn’t show it, the team was strong and had an extreme amount of depth. The team has nine returning players next year, most of started this year. The team will be led by Captains Chack Aprill and Bob Tansill. I wish them the best of luck. I think they will be a top team in New England next season! VARSITY SOCCER Front Row: B. Tansill. C. With returning lettermen Rich Kelley, Ian Boote (the two Captains), Chris Black, and Peter Benyo, the team anticipated a strong season. The addition of newcomers Jeff Hartmann, Piper Skelly, and Jed Palmer completed a starting lineup that was truly dominating in dual meet competition. The season's undefeated record of 12-0 illustrates the closeness, dedication, and intensity that the team displayed throughout the season. Runners Phil Nor-keliunas, Steve Hall, Jay Bosanko, Ed Feather, and Dave Taylor gave the team the depth that was needed to complete its most successful season in years. X-COUNTRY Front Row: J. But because of erratic play the team didn’t finish as strong as they had hoped. Despite the record, varsity hockey had some high points during the season. In December they earned a very respectable fourth place at the Avon Tourney and brought home the Consolation Trophy. Also, during the season, the hockey team had a big win over Kent and swept Taft. Many times during the season T-P would out shoot their opponent but couldn’t find the back of the net. The team was led by Captains Ron Tischler and Scott Phillips. There was also strong leadership by senors Dan Bracken, Peter Geagan, Geep Oliver, Bill Railton, Don Abbott and Paul Dow. The team had a strong nucleus of underclassmen, and all of them will be returning for next season: Mark Mangino, David McClain, Steve Dora, Flip Collins, Chuck Caracetto,Mike Kendall, Jesse Taylor, and Brad Stevens. A special thanks goes to Mr. David Reece, who had his last coaching season. He was honored as the best coach in New England for 1988. It won’t be the same on the ice without him. Mark Horncastle was the team leader in many statistical categories and was the recipient of the annual award for basketball. Led by Captains Richard Kelley and Chuck April, the team put forth a strong starting line up of Gray Ellison, Mark Wallace, Piper Skelly, Morris Elevado, John Wick, Chris Fearey, Joe Moore, John Jud-son, and Mario Gigante. The team's record of 13-2 is indicative of the hard work and dedication that was displayed constantly throughout the season. Led by Captain and number one player, Andy Ball, the team pushed a 12 - 6 record against college and prep school opponents and finished seventh at the Interscholastis held at Choate. Ball had a near perfect season with a 14 - 1 individual record and received the number 2 New England ranking by his virtue of his play at the Interscholatics which was won by St. Paul’s School. The only person who Ball lost to all season was the number 4 Williams College Varsity player. Sophomore Tom Seitz and Senior Barrette Seaton held the number 2 and 3 slots respectively all year with identical 10 -5 records. Rounding out the squad were seniors Jerry McCague and Bret Livingston, juniors Bob Tan-sill, Gabe Walsh, Jed Palmer and sophomore Bish McDonnel. Highlights of the season were the 4 to 3 victory over Hotchkiss decided by Jerry McCague, 18 - 17 in the fifth game, two victories over Kent, and a rare victory over West Point’s J.V. With several players having played at T - P for several years, this was a well disciplined squad and the ladder matches were very competitive. Thanks go to coaches Mr. Reade and Mr. Knee-land. At the Awards dinner Andy Ball received the Annual Squash Award and Bobby Tansill and Tommy Seitz was elected to lead the team next year. V 172 VARSITY SQUASH Front Row: J. McCague, B. Seaton, A. The team was competitive against Williston, Loomis, and Kingswood, and superior to Avon and Suffield. For the purpose of determining League standings, we beat Avon and Suffield once and lost to Berkshire, Choates, Salisbury, Williston, Loomis, and Kingswood once. In big races we placed sixth on the slalom at the beginning of the year, beating Kingswood, Avon, and Taft. In the G.S. race before Mid-Winter weekend, we placed 8th beating Avon. Joey Ciampa and Steve Hall, 4 year veterans of the program, were co-captains. Steve Hall, Jeff Pierce, George Kuckly, and Dave Tyree all had 10 or more of the five fastest race times in each of the seven two-run events. David Tyree won the Skimeister Award. John Tondra won an award for his skiing performance in USSA races on weekends. Other letter winners were Captain-Elect Juan Bacardi, Shan Hanigan, and Peter Whitlock. 174 VARSITY SKIING Mr. Cole. S.
