During these years, he and his wife Terri have raised two wonderful children, spending many years as dorm parents in Dunbar South before moving to their present home at the rear of the back quad. Over the years, Mr. Hubbard in his role as Athletic Director has developed a strong athletic program and has maintained a high standard of athletic commitment from which Trinity-Pawling has benefited and in which we should all take pride. To show our appreciation of all your efforts, we would like to dedicate this, the 1987 Trinitannus, to Mr. Miles H. Hubbard, Jr. 17 Archibald A. Smith III Ass t. BoQ, BoJ. Bof........ (Hillsby can finish it) What makes a hero? —Perhaps the need to help others becomes greater than the desire to benefit oneself. Are heroes born or are they constructed? Is there a conscious decision to devote ones life to the cause of others9 —There has never been an answer to that question. Where do heroes come from? Are they the stuff of legend — remembered in the past but never truly existing — or are they reborn today, new and fresh and waiting for new life? There is nothing more sad or glorious than generations changing hands. —J.C.M 1985 Thanks to: Reg. Hillsy. Dave. Resto. Tom. Scott. Al. Des, Mike. J.J.S.. Ron. Udds. Ryan. Nikki, Jenny. B.K.. Buzz. I have slipped the surly bands of earth And danced the skies on laughter — silvered wings. Sunward I've climbed and joined the tumbling mirth of sun-split clouds — and done a hundred things you have not dreamed of — wheeled and soared and swung. High in the sunlit silence. Hov'ring there. I've chased the shouting wind along, and flung My eager craft through footless halls of air. Up. up the long, delirious, burning blue. I've topped the wind-swept heights with easy grace Where never lark, or even eagle flew — And. while with silent lifting mind I've trod the high untrespassed sanctity of space Put out my hand and touched the face of God. While 2 wins-6 losses were not what we hoped for, the team played well all season and each player was in almost every game. Several players led fine seasons and deserved to be recognized for their accomplishments. Pat Garrigan and Pat Condon were the team captains and supplied fine leadership throughout the entire year. Newcomers such as Mike Mullary and Bob Murray, made a major contribution and Bob Murray was awarded the Coaches Trophy at the end of the season. Seniors Reggie Bradford, Tim Lavigne, Bill Bowman, Dave Wolin, and Dexter Doncher contributed greatly thoughout the whole season. Those seniors who played well, but did not finish the entire season because of injury, were Tom Geagan, Tim Skelly, and Steve Young, however their play on the field was much appreciated. For the next year's football season, Tom Halleron and Erik Scott were elected captains to supply leadership for the team throughout the season of 1987. The players would like to thank the coaches Mr. George, Mr. Henry, Mr. Cor-atti for a fun season. VARSITY FOOTBALL Front Row: D. Wolin. B. Bowman. A. Sprague. P. Condon (Capt.). P. Garrigan(Capt-). SOCCER Though blessed with experienced players and strong captains, the 1986 Varsity Soccer team too often were frustrated with their inability to put the ball in the net. Highlights of the season were a 1-0 win over Kingswood on parent's day, a strongly played game but a 1 -0 loss to Hotchkiss and a competitive game with Westminister who was at the top of the league when we played them. The defense was the strength of the team all year, led by captain David Bolduc at stopper, with seniors Mark Hill. Brian Lucey, David Mayeri and Drayton Heard at the outside fullback slots. Junior, Geep Oliver played at sweeper. Colt Munchoff towered over opposing forwards from his position in the net and never let a cross or high ball land in our penalty area. He was ably backed up by junior Randy Benton. The mid-field was led by senior Eric Kane in the center, and Carl Resteghini on the left with Perry Keys, and Gordon Fales subbing on the right. Captain Tom Rossmassler s quickness and speed set the tone for the forward line. Others on the line were Jamie Lamond, Dan Braken. Bob Tansill, Chuck Aprill and Mark Daniel. The team sorely missed the presence of the only 3 year letterman Liam Cuddy, who was lost for the season with a knee injury in the Choate game. Tom Rossmassler led the team in scoring with 7 goals. Dan Bracken received the Most Improved Award, and for the second straight year Geep Oliver received the Best Underclassman. David Bolduc and Tom Rossmassler both received M.V.P. At the seasons end Dave and Tom were selected to the All-Select Team in the WNEPSSA league. Rarely does our school have two players on this team and even rarer that this occurred in a year when the team had a mediocre record, a tribute to their skills. Next years team will be captained by Dan Bracken and Geep Oliver. VARSITY SOCCER First Row: E. Kane, B. Lucey. D. Mayeri, J. Lamond. D. Bolduc (captain), T. Rossmassler (captain), C. Resteghini, M. With only two seniors, captains Jay Walker and David Rock, and three returning lettermen, the seniors and Ian Boote, the team lacked experience. What they lacked, though, they made up for in enthusiasm and effort. Starting during early sports and continuing through the entire season, they worked hard and believed in themselves, rising above even the coaches’ hopes. Newcomers Peter Benyo, Chris Black, Scott Brownfield, and Richard Kelley combined with Jay Bosanko, Steve Hall, and Phil Norkeliunas up from the J.V. to help the team to one of its most successful seasons ever. Gweorge Robinson, Mark Horncastle, and Omar Robinson rounded out the starting five. Mark Mascotte and Sean Casey were the key performers off the bench which also included Jim Daley, Bill Keating, Brian Stone, Jason Peterson, and Perry Keys. The team's strong play and hard work were evidenced by the fact that every game wasn't decided until the very end. The team was led all season by consistent goaltending. Seniors Mark Hill, Carl Resteghini, and Biff Chandler combined for 8 wins and 4 shutouts. The defense anchored by Senior Co-Captain Dave Bolduc along with Brian Lucey, Scott Phillips, and Greg Steele were defensively sound, allowing only 2.34 goals a game, but oftentimes, offensive threats as well. The forwards led by Co-Captain Bob McGrath, Denny Baldwin, and Ron Tischler averaged 3.0 goals a game and were shut out only once in 22 games. Although the record indicates and up and down season, the team would like to thank Mr. Reece for a fun year enjoyed by all. VARSITY HOCKEY Sitting: P. Geagan, D. Baldwin. M. Hill, D. Bolduc. B. WRESTLING The 1987 Wrestling team had an 8-8 performance for the season. However, this was great considering the fact that the three captains Tim LaVigne, Barney Paderewski, and Reggie Bradford were the only returning lettermen. With the support of the captains and Coach Coratti, this young team showed potential with the promsing young wrestlers Rich Kelley. John Wick, and Chuck Aprill. With their hard work and positive attitude as well as dedication, the team showed qualities of an experienced team. The team is anticipating a successful season next year. We had trouble getting consistent times and would always seem to fall short of winning races. Scott Lareau and Ernie Whitbeck, the two Co-Cap-tains, usually put in good scores for the team, though Juniors Steve Hall, Joe Ciampa, Dave Tyree, and Jeff Pierce contributed to the team's competitive skiing and usually wound up with decent scores. The team's morale was always high and, regardless of the record, we enjoyed and had a great season. The high point of the team's season was the Giant Slalom Race at Mt. Sundown where all nine league ski teams participated. T-P had a fifth place finish with Scott Lareau coming in tenth overall. Ernie Whitbeck came in eighteenth. The success at Sundown boosted the team's confidence, for in the next few races, the Juniors and Sophomore Ed Bafford began racing with some good results. By the end of the season, Junior Steve Hall's racing improved to place him in the top scores of some meets. With next year's Co-Captains Steve Hall and Joey Ciampa, the team is anticipating a successful season. A special thanks to Mr. Rick Taylor who will be leaving the team next year. The team never played one match with its full seven players healthy and available. Unfortunately, at one point in the middle of the season, 4 of the top 7 were out of commission just when we played our toughest opponents. Andy Ball was 9-1 and unchallenged at the 1 spot. Captain Jake Willing and freshman Tom Seitz were the most durable players, missing only one match each at the 2 and 3 spots respectively. Seniors Drayton Heard and Ken Love, both four year squash players, steadied the middle part of the ladder while underclassmen Barrette Seaton, Jerry McCague, and Bret Livingston rounded out the squad. The Squash award went to Bret Livingston who moved up the Varsity ladder from JV's in only his first year of play. With 5 returning players, T-P Squash has much to look forward to.
