TRINITY-PAWLING SCHOOL Pawling, New York Dedication Mr. Ned Reade began his teaching career when he arrived at Trinity-Pawling eight years ago. Since that time he has devoted himself tirelessly and enthusiastically to the entire school community in his capacities as Art teacher. Soccer Coach, and dorm master of Duett 3. Under his leadership the Art Department has grown and flourished over the years, and he has successfully coached the Varisty soccer team into many championship seasons. In addition, he was instrumental in establishing and developing the Pawling Concert Series into the huge success that it is today. For his many contributions, his intense loyalty and dedication, and his great sense of humor, the Class of 1984 fondly and gratefully dedicates this book to Mr Ned Reade. Congratulations to the Class of '84 - We did it RIGHT! Luv ya Spike - I'll come back when you're rational! This must be Heaven: Tonight I've crossed the line You must be the angel I thought I might never find. Was it You I heard singing while I was chasing dreams driven by the wind like the dust that blows around and the rain falling down? I never know. This has GOT to be Heaven, 'cause here's where the rainbow ends At last it's the real thing, or close enough to pretend. Hear that wind blow? The night has yet to fall: I can hear the silence call; it's a certain sort of sound - but the rain's failin' now . . . Holes in what's left of my reason. Holes in the knees of my blues: odds against me 'been increasin', but I'll pull through. I never could read a road map; I don't know what the weather might do But I hear the Witch - wind whinin' and I see Darkstar shinin' And I've got a feeling there's no time to lose Well it's been Heaven, but even rainbows end; Now my sails are filling and the wind's so willing you know I'm GOOD AS GONE AGAIN! I'm still walkin' so I'm sure that I can dance I'm just a Saint of Circumstance just a tiger in a trance, and the rain's failin' now . . . 41 Jim Dodge Thanks Mom and Dad, Paul and Ann, C.C., C.B., the Buzzard, thanks Cearldine for the packages. For each scene, he noticed two sets of footprints in the sand; one belonging to him, and the other to the LORD When the last scene of his life flashed before him. he looked back at his footprints in the sand. He noticed that many times along thepath of his life there was only one set of footprints. He also noticed that it happened at the very lowest and saddest times of his life. This really bothered him and he questioned the LORD about it. LORD you said that once I decided to follow you, you'd walk with me all the way. But I have noticed that during the most troublesome times of my life, there is only one set of footprints. I don't understand why when I needed you the most you would leave me. The LORD replied, My precious child, I love you and I would never leave you. During your times of trial and suffering, when you see only one set of footprints, it was when I carried you. 91 Bill Babcock You know this old world is wide And you're to catch another ride You just go til you come out the other side. — S. When 45 misguided, pathetic, little monsters appeared at the doorsteps of Trinity-Pawling. They named this motley crew the Freshman class. Under the guidance of Mr. Ruoss, Di-cicco, Doc, Scanner and the campus lunatic Dave Reece, our rebellions were quickly suppressed and we were gently molded into civilized creatures. Early in the year the credit department went into debt when Edwards, Waring, and Castino needed to pick up some extra cash. The I.R.S. caught them on tax evasion. Chris Moran encountered a fierce snow storm while crossing the quad, in which he made Frosty the Snowman look good. While John Buchman, fed up with the five-star accommodations, packed his bags and left only to return unexpectedly. We survived the Senior death squads to become Sophomores. Sophomore year came into focus when the Johnson Hall night club singles bar opened its doors to sinful patrons, with Bill 'Blow your chow' McCague tending the bar. Fung, Hayum, and SAGA catered the food. Phil hammered Paradis in town, then D.C. really nailed him to the cross. Winter came and Johnson gave Cluott a snow job. Early in the morning Roman became hungry, he accomplished a five-finger discount at the donut shop only to leave his finger prints at the scene. The May-Day dance rolled around as Superman took one giant step for mankind! The great expectations of Junior year quickly overtook us as many of us were confronted with real work since colleges were in the back of our minds. Hall staged his rake-n-bake party at his pad while others hit N.V. city for the big weekend. On the whole, the fall was a tame one. Many of us flocked the Varsity Sports teams. Dougy Redhead Burke was the captain of the Cross country team, which overran their opponents as they obtained an impressive record. While the Soccer team kicked the pride out of their adversaries. The football team, on the other hand, got down and dirty only to get feathered. Winter term was molded by Gleysteen and Seckel as they artistically redecorated the pottery room. Flynn and Snyder encountered Pen-elopy as they iced a cold one, and Phil disconnected Leech's cable T.V. The hockey team acquired a decent record as did the squash team. Thumb's drove the Basketball team to the league finals. The spring was complete after the Lax. teams' trip to Bermuda, when the team settled the score with Reece. The May Day rolled around as Stites and his followers rolled around in the Quad. Masters became the spot for many. The Lacrosse team stuck everyone in the league as they won it for the fifth year in a row. The Track team had no hurdles in front of it as the Baseball team struck-out. As the year came to a close we became Seniors. When we arrived back from summer vacation we lost a few classmates who weren't missed until winter term. Dances and weekends ruled as the Salz, Frame, Gallagher and Bedford bunch rode the dance bus only to bottle their own soda, while a prefect got demoted. We had our own snipers as Gleysteen and Clark took target practice on a cabby, scoring a direct hit. Bill 'Voodoo Doll' Leech got his point across in school, he swallowed a pin. The year progressed with vitality and spirit. The class looked forward to graduation, but enjoyed reminiscing about old times. The time was well worth spent, but we were ready to experience a college education. The memories we have had and the friends we made will be everlasting. 105 Senior Directory William Everett Abbott (p 88) Trinity Pawling School 161 Rt 22 Pawling. Disregarding the win loss column, Trinity-Pawling was a reflection of success in many ways. The coaching staff along with the individuals faced adversity for two consistent years. Through these hard times, the Blazers, were able to face difficulty and make this experience a learning one. Determination and pride was at the heart of the team. The team was a composite of players that always gave one-hundred ten percent. As seen by each game, there was constant improvement. The final game of the season ended in an explosive victory over Suffield Academy. This was the end of the 1983 season but the beginning for a team with renewed pride and determination. Within the T.P. community, there are coaches who give a great deal of time and effort game. Head coach Paul Henery and backfield coach john Hutin-son, former Brown University players contributed immensely to the team. Trinity College lineman, Dave Corratti, produced a powerful and conditioned offense and defensive line. These elite coaches are very special to Trinity-Pawling They are respected by the players and our opponents. With the help of these coaches, the team was able to learn from its mistakes and become stronger individuals. 138 VARSITY FOOTBALL Row 2: Coach Corratti, Chris Lovely. Tim Roscoe, Lindsay Whittaker. John Crandal, Mike Gleysteen With only six returning lettermen, the 1983 Varsity Soccer team did not have great strength on paper. However, led by Co-Captains Ron Hill and Charles Daily, the team would not settle for a mediocre season. As the schedule ran its course it was a year of high aspirations combined with disappointing setbacks culminating in a 6-5-4 record. The offense was plagued by inexperience and had difficulty scoring despite exceptional speed. Senior, Drew Hall, playing wing led the line in tallies, and forwards Alan Pfleuger, Field Smith, Mike Quartarero and john Crandall rounded out the attack. Next years team will have the game experience to add to their talents. The midfield was anchored by Daily and john Clay Stites, with Lois DuBois, jim Pagano, Bill Traff and Logan Vonce sharing time there as well. Stites was the team high scorer and received the Most Improved Award, while Daily was second in scoring and received the Best Underclassman Award was the only T-P player to be elected to the WNEPSSE league All Select Team The brightest moments for this team were the defensive plays, led by senior goalie Ron Hill, backed up by junior goalie john Nelson, and senior fullbacks jim Cooper, Rene Harde and Mark Sanchez, with underclassmen Curtis Scribner, Chris Baldwin and Mike Young. This group gave up one goal or less in 11 of the 15 games, for his brilliant play and leadership, Ron Hill won the Annual Soccer Award. Highlights of the fall included a 0-0 tie with 2 ranked Berkshire, a 1-1 against Kent and well played team efforts against South Kent, and Brunswick. With 12 returning players and newly elected captains Charlie Daily and Curtis Scribner, Mr Reade has much to look forward to next year. I V SOCCER Row 1: Peter Paik. David White, Chris Mansfield. All runners had the potential to have the team go undefeated, but early in the season there was difficulty when several key members of the team suffered injuries. The injured included lef Depaola (Captain) Doug Burk, Keith Alston and Dan Bracken, this unfortunately crippled the team The team had to rely on runners from the j.V. team who ran at the varsity level, this put a great deal of pressure on these less experienced runners. One would think that the moral of the team would drop; however a few individuals on the team who were able to cope with this and they kept the team's spirit up by strong support. The team captain, Doug Burke, although injured for the latter part of the season was at every practice supporting the team with enthusiasm. Chris Salz and Lawson Willard won the cross country MUP trophy, these individuals greatly contributed to the team's success. John Buckman received a trophy for the most enthusiastic team member. The team’s season was extremely successful with what it had under the adverse conditions. The team's captain next year will be Cordon Richardson. 147 WINTER 148 150 151 153 154 VARSITY VOLLEYBALL ROW 1 Lawson WiHard. Tim Rooney ROW 2: Morton Fearey (coach). Rynard Gundrum, Chris Gaylord.
