You forgot about school last night, You can't answer a question. Your teacher, in turn, soon hnds out, You haven't even read your lesson. Noon comes and at twelve-iifteen, Although no one pays attention, Youlre seen running down the hall again, Toward room twelve, reporting for detention You'll soon learn what it means to you, So keep this thought of mine- It pays to study your lesson And to get class on time. -ELMA YOUNG JAMES R. Having survived the teasing of the upper elassmen bravely, we became finally an orderly group. Qui' leaders for that year were: President, Ellsworth Hunt, Vice President, Homer Chivers, Secretary, Elsie Rossg Treasurer, Betty Chambers. Nliss Kiblinger and Mr. Clark were chosen as our advisors. The next fall we elected as leaders: President, Xvilliam Davis: Vice President, Joe Patrick, Secretary, Alice Green, Treasurer, Nfildred Yorkin. 1Vhen our president moved from the city, Joe Patrick took over his duties. That year we had a very suc- cessful tea dance and later, our hrst evening affair, the Sophomore Traffic Jam Hop. In September, 1941, we began a new year as Juniors. This being our busiest year, we immediately elected as officers: President, Robert Dentzer, Vice President, John Chupinskyg Secretary, lVIona Lu Dunn, Treasurer, Nlildred Yorkin. The first social event of the year was the Hlunior Blitzw. After the second semester had started we lost two of our leaders into Uncle Sam's service. Our President, Bob Dentzer, joined John Chupinsky Johnny JUNIOR CLASS HISTORY the Nlarines, and Nlr. Clark, our advisor, is in the Army. The Junior Play One VVild Night , and the Annual Junior-Senior Prom were the most important events of the year. The Hillern, our Paper, had the largest circulation of any Junior paper at Trinity. lfVe edited six issues. lfVe are Juniors-next year may the underclassmen be proud to look to us as Sen- iors. THE OLYMPUS 1942 FAREWELL 'Ir VVeeks have passed since I saw you last, WVeeksl Oh! It must be years. In memory I see your face again Blurred by a mist of tears. Tears that rose as I felt your lips In that kiss that said farewell. Tender, gentle and very sweet, Sweeter than words can tell. If I could hold you close again And surrender to you dear. If I could but feel your touch once more, I could forget my fear. Until the time that you might love, And all those false images erase, I could not live and lose you dear, This would be to cruel to face. Hope is all that helps me now, Hope that your eyes may shine VVith the same true love when again I clasp Your dear hand in mine. SOPHOMORES PAUL CALABRO President ROBERT YOUNG Vice President ALICE MILLER Secretary IRENE TAYLOR Treasurer SOPHOMORE CLASS HISTORY lVe, the class of 1944, entered Trinity on September 5, 1940, with an enroll- ment of 450, the largest class ever to enter here. VVe consider the success which We have attained due to our selection of our advisors, Miss Dempster and lVIr. Ross. Our freshman class ofiicers were President, Grace V. Beton, Vice President, Aud- ree Ellwoodg Secretary, Eleanor Rossi, Treasurer, Louise Collins. During our fresh- man year We held a Tea Dance which was considered one of the most successful ever held at Trinity. A party brought the climax to our activities for our first year. ln the fall of '41 We returned to Trinity with more enthusiasm than the previous year due to the fact that We were considered upper-classmen. Oiqicers were President, Paul Calabrog Vice President, Robert Young: Secretary, Alice Mille1'g Treasurer, Irene Taylor. To make our sophomore year a success We held a dance, the Holly Hop, which led the way to our evening dance held blarch 13, 1942. Our most exciting activities were the ordering of our rings which will be delivered in September when we return as juniors, and the Sophomore Party which brought our second successful year to a close. Our class ranked high in athletics, music. and other school activities. We hope that our following years at Trinity will prove to be as successful as have our two previous ones. 1 SOPHOMORE GIRLS Adams, Allender, Anderson, Armstrong, Ashmore, Bainbridge, Balog, Balser, Bamberger, Batson, Bednarsky, Beton, Betonte, Bosak, Brownlee, Bryner, Burch, Burt, Caldwell, Camp, Campbell, Carson, Casey, Chambers, Collins, Comedy, Conkle, G. We met in the gymnasium Where We were excited and eager to begin our four- year course of study Within its Walls. With such a large class We were separated into groups of forty or fifty pupils in order that all might obtain the best instruction. During the following months We freshmen settled into an orderly group of students. lt became easier for us to find our classrooms and to tell one building from the other. As We Went on through the year We learned more and more about our Alma Mater. Assemblies were somewhat a new experience to most of us. Gur first class meeting was held December l7, 1941. lVlr. Braden had charge of the meeting. Our' Advisers are MISS EIBS and MR. JOHN. Our first activity was our Freshman Party, held April 10, 1942, which was a success. In the future, as we end our journey, we hope to be as successful as were all the other classes of Trinity High School. The purposes of this group are several and one of the more important is promoting the development of the boy's musical tastes to a higher degree. The music presented to this group over the period of a year consists of varied kinds. These may be classiiied as sacred, semi-classical, and some popular numbers. Due to the fact that teachers have been changed during the year, the activities of the Chorus have been noticeably decreased. However, the group rendered three selections in a program at assembly and on another occasion sent representatives to a neighboring high school in a mixed chorus for Brotherhood VVeek. VVe also sent one of the members as a participant in the Forensic League. A ORCHESTRA This year the Orchestra has had rehearsals throughout the term. It has furnished music for assemblies and class plays. Though small in number, the Orchestra has produced pieces, ditlicult and easy, which have been very Well played. We feel sure that the Orchestra will continue on its way to success. ADVANCED GIRLS' CHORUS The Advanced Girls' Chorus is a group of approximately fifty voices, now under the direction of Miss Suzanne bliller. lVlr. Yvilliam Good Was the director during the Iirst semester. The fine points of diction and expression Were stressed this year more than ever. The Chorus sang both classical and popular numbers, taking part in assemblies, and having some of the members participate in a mixed chorus for the Brother- hood Vveek program. THE i-IILLER This year, the student publication attained a circulation greater than that of any preceding year. The staff, made up entirely of Juniors Qexcept for the typistsj, published six editions. Each edition featured the sport, holiday, or event that Was uppermost in the minds of the readers. The Junior paper made Trinity history this year in that a perma- nent name Was established for all future editions of the Junior paper. Five names were nominated and The Hillerw was chosen by the student body. Continuing a service that Was originated last year, the subscription rate of twenty-five cents for three editions Was offered and the majority of the papers Were sold on that basis. Miss Kiblinger and Mr. Clark got the paper off to a good start, but with the army calling, Mr. Clark was forced to leave us. FOOTBALL DECKER-Coach Trinity High's football squad compiled the best record in the school's history during the past season, despite the loss of Teddy Spara, star running back, due to the nineteen year age limit, and the advancement of the school into the AA class. The record of seven wins, two losses, and one tie included a l4-13 victory over our arch-rival, Washington High, which broke their sixteen year stranglehold of the city championship. Also in the list of victims were Canonsburg and Burgettstown, our chief district rivals. ln the last game Trinity held unbeaten Mt. PROGAR-F.B. From a rather green, inexperienced eleven, the Hillers developed into a fast-mov- ing, hard-hitting outfit. Some great broken field running by Tomsic and Calabro coupled with the smashes of Progar and Sensky gave the Deckermen a Hne attack. The oppon- ents' average of six points a game was due largely to some fine play by the Whole line including Quinn, the Kerns, Leppert, Campbell, Sisul, Rosinski, and Belcastro. The team was full of fight and, even despite injuries at various times to Leppert, Progar, Brytus, and Calabro, carried on in typical Trinity fashion. From this team thirteen Seniors will be lost including Tomsic, Calabro, Rosinski, Belcastro, A. Kern, Leppert, Campbell, Quinn, Vercek, Engle, Crompton, Tanner, and J. Trinity's record is made even more impressive by the fact that they defeated every team in the league with the exception of Browns- ville. Victories over VVashington High, Canonsburg, and Nlonessen, and double vic- tories over Charleroi and Monongahela were the highlights of a very exciting season. The season's record of 15 -wins and 7 defeats is a very respectable one since there Was not a single regular from the previous year. Miss KIBLINGER The T Club, whose members are outstanding in scholarship and highest achieve- ments in athletics and other activities, have tried in the past eight years to live up to their standards. The first social function of the Club was a skating party followed by the annual football dance, in which Hourl' team was honored. The football banquet, sponsored by the Club, was held in the school cafeteria with Mr. Holcomb from W. 81 as guest speaker. The initiation of new members in Feb- ruary was followed by a hen party. Although the Club will lose many members by graduation, we know that with continued efforts of the new members, as time goes on, the loss will not be noticeable. T CLUB GIRLS' BASKETBALL GI RLS' BASKETBALL After being discontinued last year by the School Board, girls' basketball was IC vived late this season. The girls won all of their six regularly scheduled games After the season, the team advanced to the quarter finals of the Allegheny lVIounta1n Associa tion Tournament in Pittsburgh. The team was composed of forwards Costello, ones, Tallarico, Lawrence, Karner, and Shipe, and guards, Rossi, Haught, Gajarskv, Carson, Audia, and Truby. Trinity .,... Trinity ..... Trinity .....
