Wherever people group together, individuals begin to emerge as leaders, and powerful influences. In the gradually emerging, evolving society of Trinity High School we recognize Mr. Lawrence Kostelac as such a figure. Man is always reaching outward, always trying to grope for new horizons, for knowledge, for the few answers to the many questions. This striving for the in- accessible is man's enigma. Once started, nothing can alter the pace of this evolu- tion. For man must always try ". . . to strive, to seek, to find . . . to follow knowledge like a sinking star, beyond the utmost bound of human thought? Man is driven to strive for perfection, to find his own meaning to his own immortality. Trinity High School, as a group of individuals, administration, faculty, parents and students, involved in such a struggle has won for itself a special spirit, created through growing, learning, and living. Mr. Kostelac has embodied for us this dy- namic spirit, calling each student to advance and progress, to move forward and make Trinity greater. We, the students of Trinity, in recognition of his enormous contribution to the spirit of our school, and to so many individual students, wish to dedicate this yearbook to Mr. Kostelac. It is the concrete symbol of our deep respect and admiration. w The Most Reverend George L. Leech, D.D., J.C.D. Bishop of Harrisburg The Most Reverend Joseph T. Daley, D.D., V.G. Noel St. Catherine Laboure Church, Harrisburg The Reverend Salvatore V. Zaugari St. Ann Church, Steelton A L lbw- The graduating senior is iilled with many and sometimes confusing emotions. Uppermost among these is justiiiable pride in having met and conquered another important goal in life. For this accomplishment, I, as your new principal, and the faculty and staff congratulate you, young men and women of the class of 1970. As you leave Trinity and move in a new direction, you experience joy. Alloyed to this joy is a tinge of sorrow at leaving a part of yourself here, and just a touch of uncertainty as you launch out into a new direction in life. Assuming a new posture with respect to the persons, events, and things around you is unsettling. As we live we must frequently ask ourselves the hard question - f'What,s it all a out?,' It is only when we can honestly answer that question that our hope will thrive and our joy in living will grow apace. It is a trite but accurate cliche that states, MEve1'ybody wants progress, but no- body wants to changef' This dilemma has faced each generation. What is happen- ing around us is the almost simultaneous impact of numerous and powerful influences, each trying to mold our institutions according to a particular viewpoint of how human life is to be lived. Consequently, our society is filled with tensions due to the expectation on the part of some peo le for overnight modification. The real and proximate issues - race, warfare, ecolldgical suicide, and rejection of au- thority must be faced and resolved by intelligent responses. As you move from Trinity into a more adult role in society, it is our hope, and the hope of the Church of Harrisburg, that you will be taking with you the value-system of Christ: "Love God and love your neighborf' Equipped with a practical understanding of this motivation, your lives will necessarily be successful and meaningful. With you go our wishes that God may bestow his choicest blessings on you and that, together with Him, your lives may be eminently successful. Brother Joseph Stinson, F.S.C. I N A philosopher recently stated that if we forget the past we are doomed to per- petual infancy. Wisdom and experience of the past cannot be ignored, it has to orm a major portion of our system of values. Today the words which dominantly ring in our ears are: react, refuse, resist, rebel. Frustration will bury us all unless we retain trust in the truth of the past and hope in the honesty of the present. St. Paul once wrote a letter of ope to the Romans, a people whose a e was similar to ours. They are my sentiments as we see the Class of 1970 leave Trinity High School. hink of God's mercy and worship, I beg you, in a way that is worthy of think- ing beings - Do not model yourselves on the behaviour of the world around you, but let your behaviour change, modeled by your new mind. This is the only way to discover the will of God and know what is good, what it is that God wants, what is the perfect thing to do. - I urge each one of you not to exaggerate his real importance - Do not let your love be a pretence f Love each other as much as brothers should, and have a profound respect for each other. - If you have hope, this will make you cheerful - Do not give up if trials come. Treat everyone with equal kindness, never repay evil with evil - Do all you can to live at peace with everyone. - Love is the one thing that cannot hurt your neighbor, that is why it is the answer to everty one of the commandments. If a person's faith is not strong enough, welcome im all the same therefore, you should make up your mind never to be the cause of your brother tripping or falling . . . Hold on to your be- lief, as between yourself and God - and consider the man fortunate who can make his decision without going against his conscience - the night is almost over, it will be daylight soon, let us arm ourselves and appear in the light. And your guts ache and your heart bleeds for them, because this is dedication, this is dis- cipline, and this is total commitment to something you cling to, and something you believe in. And you know deep inside that you are teaching one out of every four boys in this school, things that cannot be learned from any textbook. Now ask me . . . was all the work worth it? It is here that we have shaped our future, for the future is built on the past, a product of time and ex- perience. It is born of a dream, a vision, an idea, and stretches endlessly before us. Our experiences here have molded our values and given us an opportunity to discover ourselves. We have grown and matured during these years and now it is our tum to shape the world.
