T. J. C. Ruled Boost in Spring Sports 1950 As this book goes to press, the 1951 season for spring sports is just beginning, but the story of the Trojan squads in 1950 is worth repeating. The men of Troy made a clean sweep of baseball, track, and tennis championships at Grand Junction, Colorado. This was the first time in the history of the conference that a single school walked away with all of the trophies. The baseball team under the expert guidance of Coach Red Eastlack proved too tough for all conference foes. The Trojans had a well-balanced ball club and were exceptionally strong in the pitching department. Dave Gurule, Jim Heller, and Virgil McRyhew were the pitchers who led the Blue and Cold to the conference championship. The tennis squad, with Dean Banta as Coach, also brought glory to dear old T.J.C. Chris Deits was the Conference Singles Champion, the runner-up spot was captured by teammate, Richard Strittmater. The conference Doubles Champions were Wilbur Deits and Alan Brown. A The track team, guided by Coach Riddell, captured conference honors. Led by acting Captain, Lucius Dailey, who placed first in both the 100 yard dash and the broad-jump, the Trojans amassed a total of 74'1Ag points. A new 880 yard con- ference record was set by Eloy Lamorie. Other first place ribbon winners were Floyd Robinson in the 220, Charles Bird in the shotput, a first place tie in the pole vault event between Bob Jeffryies and Don Anderson, and first place in the 880 and mile relays. 1951 TENNIS SQUAD Front row: Coach C.
