E STUDENT GOVERNMENT For smoother sailing, a crew was organized to help steer the ship to higher seas of self' government. With student government there would be no mutiny on this -ship of learning when each who walks the decks does his share to guide, to help, and to hold the ship on its course as it sails to higher seas of education. To sail more smoothly each must feel the atmosphere of self-government, the captain must understand his crew, and the course must be well planned. Day by day the Way is planned so each passenger may know his course and in knowing sail to find a better place on the high seas of life. On theship of Trigg a crew was organized in 1939. From each port there came a senator and representatives and with the guidance of Mr. McDonald and the president, they planned the course so that each passenger may find a better way when he puts out to sea. ' j SENIOR CLASS HISTORY It was in 1936, that a freshman class embarked on many ships for a cruise on the sea of knowledge. Fiftyf eight of these freshmen were destined to meet on the new ship, T. C. H. in 1937 as sophomores. After, the ship had set sail a few miles the passengers got into the swing of its life, they organized clubs and selected their captain and nrst matef They also participated in many performances perhaps the most important being the sophomore play, "Little Miss Hitch Hiker." During their freshman and sophomore years they had accomplished some of the most difiicult tasks and had mastered some of their hardest subjects. In'1938 when the class returned as first class passengers they were pleased to see the ship more beautiful with many new passengers. This was the year that the fun and the work really began. The passengers succeeded in making their ship' the best that had ever sailed the seven seas. More activities were enjoyed. A band and a football team were organized with members of the junior class taking important parts in each. The junior play was a wonderful performance and the' JuniorfSenior Banquet clirnaxed the events of the entire year. With the strains of "Anchors Aweigh" the seniors started their final dash for their home port. They began the year with more responsibility realizing that they were weighing their anchors for life. Ship life was enjoyed all the more. More and more things were accomplished. Prizes and trophies were won, showing that the ship was becoming famous. Near the end of the year the senior play, "Three Taps at Twelve," was presented and the junior class entertained them with a lovely banquet. When the senior class of 1940 anchored safely on shore, they numbered seventyfone passengers all of whom had great ideas for themselves. Many planned to cruise further on the sea of knowledge stopping at ports where they had failed to venture before and we are sure that everyone will wish them Bon Voyage. CLASS PROPHECY "IVhe'n I dept into the future far as human eye could seep Saw the 'vision of the world and all the wonder that would befp' As Tennyson once said, so did I when I peered into my crystal globe. I took it in my hand and gazedinto its depths until like magic I saw a ship, a huge vessel, launched. John D. Minton was captain giving orders to his crew. This liner was skillfully. sterred by the helmsman, Thomas Myers, with the assistance of the engineers, Robert Belshe and R. H. Upton, Jr. The deck was filled with passengers among whom I saw james Larkins, the world's greatest orator and his wife, formally Ann Alexander. The hostess of this liner, Frances Hardy was cheerfully entertaining Ken' tucky's poet laureate, Allene Bridges and the famousartists, Homer Parrent, Virginia Hughes and Sarah Frances Jones. I saw employed in the educational department, Gertrude Blanks and Ernestene Meador as Home Economics teachers, along with Jean Light, Mamie Boatwright and Jean Bannister as waitresses. In the commercial department were the fastest typists, Lurlene Aldridge, Elizabeth Nunn, Barbara Thomas, Francis Harrell, Bessie Reddick, Thelma Guthrie, Hettie Adams and Lurlene Newton with their instructor, Aubrey Woodruff: Next I saw the librarian, Helen Childress, distributing agriculture yearbooks to Jess Vinson, Marvin Broad- bent, Jr., Layton Tuggle, William Cherry, MauricelFutrell, William Harrell, Clarence Thomas and Douglas Mize, professional farmers. I turned my globe around. Then I saw a form dressed in white who happened to be Ben White the world's most famous -surgeon. I saw nurses there also, among whom were Katherine Shelton, Ella Mae Turner, Dar' danella Reddick, Thelma Thomas, Ida McKinney, Katherine Powell and Elizabeth Stevens. Turning my globe again I looked upon the shops brilliantly lighted. One I remember was a beauty shoppe with Mary Lee Whitney and Juanita Clark, as operators. I also saw the stenographers, Gladys Finnel, Jean Martin, Maxine Chambers, julia Light and Blanche Wilson working in the television department. Then I saw the Theatre, owned by Reed Williams, The play I remember was "Macbeth," When the curtain rose, to my delight the actors were Audra Cunningham and Duncan Rose playing the roles of Lady Macbeth and Macbeth. Then out on the stage came Chappell Aldridge, the comedian in the role of the King's fool. The music staff of this theatre consisted of the renowned pianists, Barbara Bridges and Virginia Guier with Merry Hayes as soloist. Among those vacationing I recognized the following of the Trigg County High Faculty, Smith Simmons, Virginia Wallace, James Stewart, Marshall Cooper and Virginia Dare Thomas. I also saw the two great scientists, Ed Street and Trimble Major. I was delighted by the swimming race between the strongest athletes, E, F. Goodwin, William McCoy, John Myers and Hezzie Turner. Those enjoying these sports were: Bess world's best known horse trainer and Frances Long, the song composer. Then as quickly as it came the vision vanished and I, puzzled and astonished, was gazing into emptiness. SU.Ls, COACH PERDUE- FOOTBALL The 1939 "Wildcats" of Trigg County High in their second year of football and their first as a West Kentucky Conference member acquited themselves with honor. Although winning only two games of ten played they proved no easy mark for any team and at the close of the season their record showed the greatest margin of defeat to be two touchdowns and that to Mayfield 13fO the eventual Conference winner. In scoring 73 points against 87 for the opponents in ten games the "Wildcats" showed an almost impregnable defense while their offense was proven to be weak probably due to lack of experience. However with ten returning lettermen and a wealth of promising material coming up from the "B" squad prospects look bright for a winner next fall. I Lost to the squad of '40 will be the following graduating seniors' each of whom has given a good account of himself in every game played. We will miss you but we will never forget' you. john D. BASKET BALL TEAM The Trigg County High "Wildcat" basket ball team enjoyed the best season' in the three year life of Trigg County High. - They not only won eighteen games of twenty-four played but topped the regular season play by defeating their arch rivals Kuttawa 3865 in the Fifth District Hnals to become for the first time the chain' pious of their district and its representative in the Regional at Madisonville. Many things could be said of this edition of the "Wildcat" basketeers but nothing would serve better than to say,' ifAll Trigg County is proud of you and what you haveaccornplished as a part of it." Seven letters were given inbasket ball and with five of these returning for next season Trigg County High should again be in the public eye. Rose and Cherry are lost by graduation and we willmiss them at all times but still look forward-to having back suchexperienced performersas Sills, Graham, Allen, Freeman and Green and as a long range forecast- expect an even more successful season in 194041. 1 Page Forty-eight 4... , :mm ' :,' , igggggggiimia, uh E 3,558 ,.. , ' 1 Eiiwyf' ea C Q 0 ?' gwm?'
