FFA Top Rovs J McCullough B Clark G Guernsey B ODonnell H Cooper F Shanle J Fugate J Vargo J Burns D Henderson D Purcell J Powers D Beck R Womack VK Shanle Second Row D Dambacher R Lord A Brooks J Hoehn D McGeath G Campbell C Fulten B ODonnell G Monical G Boston R Kitchen F Krammer L Ketchum Third Row B Purcell E Beadle R Spangler D Pfeiffer D Miller Stanley Treasurer Tom Booker President B111 Shaffer Vice President Kenneth Metcalf Secretary Bill Mulcahv Reporter Howard Peters JMKMJJ KL When school opened there were twenty eight chapter farmers enrolled along with twenty tour greenhands We got off to a great start by checking our test corn plot We checked the strength and corn borer tolerance of different kinds of corn Our agriculture teacher learned of some good Kansas varieties of corn when a graduate stu dent at U of I, and we compare three ot them this summer with nine other V3I'l8t19S for drouth resistance, chinch bug resistance and y1eld They look good, and We plan to continue our study of them for several years During the late spring and early summer we mow Weeds around town and school to destroy mosqulto harbors and help prevent polio The Vocational Agriculture Department has cut down several dead and ugly trees around the school yard, and burned off the area where cars park for ball games to prevent loss by fire We also checked the damage done to unwanted trees on the school yard A mixture of kerosene and Esteron Weed and Brush Klller was used as a spray On October 8 1953 the officers of the Tri City chapter made the trip to Green view tor the annual leadership training school Our reporter served as one of the of ficers during opening and closing ceremonies The chapter has been working on the program ot work for this year corn har vest, soil testing, livestock feeding soil management and getting projects under wav NINETEEN K.
