Y Y Y 'l lil i the band this year had many start- ing problems: first, the band had to find a field to practice marching. using the school parking lot wasfine until the motorists decided they wanted to use it. that didn't work. the bandsmen then decided to use the field at starlight park at 7:00 in the morning which brought up more problems. the first problem was water after rains and irrigation. the field was a swamp . the second problem was that little kids were darting in and out of the lines and formations dur- ing practice. a simple remedy for this was a kick in the pants, but the starlight administration frowned on this. despite these problems, the bruin band marched on with school spirit. lower right corner: bill leroy Cleft! this year's drum major and mr. lewis finell frightj, the band director, standing by the schooI's new music room. this team brought the marching band through such events as the state fair, a.s.u. band day, and many other marching performances. lower Ief1: corner: tuba player dave yannayon plays the school fight song on his way to one of the school's many pep assemblies. mr. finell expressed his views about browne by saying, this school gives the student a unique opportunity to learn and advance in their own way. and when asked, how is band doing this year, he replied Hit is very fortunate to have so many students of high caliber from maryvale, that it makes the process of starting a new school a lot easier.

yearbook staff fights inexperience and deadlines despite the yearly bugaboo of close deadlines and the big prob- lem of not having a complete darkroom, this year's staff was able to overcome most obstacles and put out browne's first yearbook. a contest to name the book at the beginning of the year was won by kevin steiner, who received a free yearbook for his entry. the staff also sponsored a halloween dance and sold candy apples as well as advertising to supplement yearbook sales. the yearbook is completely self-supporting. top left: staff discusses first deadline strategy. top right: tom reilly, editor, and mrs. l. mooningham, adviser, explain fine points of layout design. right: fbottom rowl lauri higgins, debby border, bobbie wentzel, kim clark, gina garcia, gerry scheid, cathy cunningham, terry turrentine, karen michelson and shane markley. fsec- ond rowj mike ferrara, jim borphy, mike bauch, bill fish.fthird row! bill Whitmore. larrv little. tom reillv. randy e X N--me-pug... its X-t-Y' Q
