TO THE HALL OE SA , V W , '-all The importance of a remedial course is explained by Mrs. Firman to two of her students, Veronica 0'Gorman and Margaret Cashel. Anticipating the challenge of high school life, incoming freshmen find the variety of subjects available here pleas- antly surprising. In addition to required religion, history, and English courses, they find that there are electives in languages, science, mathematics, business, and art. This year, as always, new courses have been added to help students prepare for college or a job. Introductory Latin is now available for students who do not undertake the study of a language in ninth grade. This aids the student in deciding whether or not to pursue a language later on. A progressive reading course, initiated last year, has been extended to sophomores and will continue to include a new class each year until all four years are en- compassed. Mechanical drawing, radio, journalism, and driver education are available to students interested in such activities. Since 80'Z: of the students who graduate from Saint Anthony's go on to college, the curriculum is based largely on academic fields. However, the remaining 2O'Zv are by no means ignored. There are business programs which en- able seniors to leave school in the afternoons to go to work, as well as courses which help students qualify for secretarial positions when they graduate. The cooperative work program has also been extended to include beauti- cian work for interested girls. Boys in electronics may make use of facilities at Trenton Tech.
