What you end up with is a changed school. Change has certainly been an important theme of our school this year. Yet the school has remained fundamentally the same. The traditions which have characterized Ontario Ladies ' College for one hundred and five years have served Trafalgar Castle School well. The striving for academic excellence, the friendly, family-like atmosphere, the strong school spirit: these are the ingredients which have always prevailed at the ' ' Ladies ' College " and surely always will. The May Court, the Senior Dinner, The Student Christian Fellowship Bazaar and this very book continue to be events unique to us. On these great foundations will the new Trafalgar Castle School build. • •aaa, ■ aaaai • •aaai • ■••ai ■ aaaaa ai ■ aaaaaaaa ■ •■aaaa ai • ■•••■••a ' •■■••••aa aaaaaaaaaa ■aaaaaaaaa ••aaaaaaaa ■•aaaaaaaa ■ • • • • ■ aaaa ■aeaaaaaaa ■ • •• aaaa • • aa aaaa ••■ •aaaa •aa •aaaa • •aaaaaa. •a ■ •aaaa ••■•••aa ■aaaaaaa • aaaaaa •aaaaaaa ■•••••a •■••••aa • ■ a • • • aa •aa ••••a change and tradition: These two factors are so necessary for growth. They are inseparable. As Arnold Toynbee so rightly stressed " in- |aaaaaa stltutious which rcfusc to adjust or institutions that abandon all that has gone before are doomed to failure. " Striving for a proper balance •SnSSI between the two has been a second important theme this year. To those of you returning in September I ask this. Let us all work together to continue building on the legacy that the graduates leave behind for us. To do any less would be a betrayal of thier trust. For those of you leaving the school in June, life holds many changes in store. I hope thai each of you has learned, by being a student at WW Trafalgar Castle School, the importance of remaining open to new ideas and new challenges. At the same time I pray that each of you will take with you something of value that you can cherish as long as you live; that a small part of you will forever be Trafalgar Castle School. laaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaeeaaaaaaaaaaaaeeaaaaaaeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaeeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaavaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaai iaaaeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaeaaaaaaaaeaeeeeaaaaaaeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa«aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa « laaaaaaaaaeeaaaeaaaaaaaaeeeaaaaaaeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaagaaaaaaaaaBaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaeeaeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaeeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaBaaaaaaaa ■aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaBaaeeeeaeeaaeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaaeaaaaaaeaaaaaaaaaaaaaa aaaaaaaaaaaaeaaaaeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa aaaaaa aaaaaaaaai laaaeaaaaaaaaaaaaaeeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaeaaeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaee a,a aaaaaaaaaaaai laaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaeaaaaaaaaaaaeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa aaaaaBaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa •••••••••••••••••••••a •••••••••••••••••••••a •••• ••••••••••• •••••••■•••••••■■■•■•••a •••••••••••a ••••••«•■•••••■•••••••••••••••••■■■•••••••■•••■••■•••••• ••••■••••••■■••■■■«■•■■•■••••••••••••••••••••••••■••••••■•••■■••■•••••••••■•••■••■••■■•■••■•••■••••■•••••■••••• ■■•••■••■••••••••••••■••■•■••■•■■■•■•••••••••••••••••••• «•■••••■■••■•■■•■•••••■••••••■■■••••■•■■■■•••••■■••■••••••••■•■ ■••••••••••■•••••••••••••••••■ ■••••••••■••■■■••■••■•••••■■••••••••••••••••••••■■••••••■••••••••••••••••••••■•••••■«•■■■■••••••••■•■••••••••■•■■■ ••••••••••■•••••••••••••••••••■•••••■•••■•••■■••■••■■••••■■••••••••••••••••••■■••••••«•••■■•••■•••••••■■■•■••••■•■••••■■■•••■••••■••■■••••••••••• •••••••••• •• •■•••••••■••••«•■ ••••••••••■•■•■•••■•••••■■■••a ••••••••■■••••■••■•••••••••■•a ■••••••••■■•••••••I ••••••••••••••••••I •••••••••••••••••••••i •■■••••••••••■•••••••I •••••••••••••••••••••I ••■••••••I ••••••••••■•••••••a ■■•••••••••••••••••••••••••i •■•••••••■•••••••••••••••••i •••••••■•••■■•••••••••••••• •••••••••••••••••••••••••••i ••••••••••■•••••••••••••••• ••••••■••••••••••••••••••••i ••••••••••• ••••••••• •••••••••••••••••••••■••••••■l ••••••••••••••••••••••••••■••l • ••••••••••••■••■••••• • •••• «••••••••••••••••• ••••••••••••••••••••••• ■••••■••■■••••••••••■•••••••••••••••••••••••■•■■■a •••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••■••••••••••••••••••■••■■■■■■••■•■■•••■•■■■■■••a •••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••■■■••••••••••■•■••■••••••«••«■••••••••••••••••••■■■••••• ••••••••••••■•••• ■•«•••■•■••■••■• ■•••■■•••■•••••■•••••••■•••••■••••• •••••••• ••••••«••••••••• ■•••••••••■••••• ■•• •••••••••••••• ■••■■■■■••••••••■•••••••■•••••••••a ••••••••■••■•■■■••■•■•••••••••■•••a ••••••■•■■■■•■••■■■••••••■••■•■•••a ■••■••••■•■••••■■■■■••••••••••••••a •••■■•■•■••■•••■■■■•••••••■•••••••a faa a«aaaaa»aa»a «a«aaaaaaa«aaaaaaa taaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa ••aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa ••••aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa •aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa •••••aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa ••••aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa vaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa vaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa •aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa ■aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa laaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa ■aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa ■aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa vaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa taaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa vaaaaaaaaaa ■aaaaaaa aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa ! aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaai aaaaaaaaaaaaa aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa •aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa iThe Dean ' s Message r orQtiiH£ nrc ••aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa UCal olUUClli:: , ••aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa •aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa ■aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa aaaaaaaaaaaaaa aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa aaaaaaaaa aaaaaaaaaaaaaaa a aaaaa aaaa aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa aaaaaaa ; Like everything else religious thought and vocabulary change, and some illustrations used by preachers years ago now have an old-fashioned ; ring to them. One such story tells of a minister who went to preach in a country church. When he arrived there was no-one to meet him, so he I walked in by the front door. In the vestibule there was a box with the label - " For Visiting Ministers " - and on an impulse he dropped in a coin. After the Service was over one of the ushers came to him and said: " We always give our guest preacher whatever is in the box, so here you are, sir. Many girls will X be asking themselves this question as they reflect on the time they have spent at Trafalgar Castle. y Besides the studies that will help us make our mark in the J world, each girl has had the opportunity to get involved; those who participated realized that if they wanted to get anything i out of T.C. then they had to give to it. r One of the greatest benefits of Trafalgar Castle School is the ? opportunity to make new friends. I will remember all of you and I hope you are successful in whatever you do. X K Always wear a smile, and if you see someone without one then pass one on. The trunks were all packed on the halls by the score Ready to fly off to a far-distant shore. The girls were all nestled all snug in their cots With visions of home cooked meals of which there ' d be lots. The Dean in her snuggies was curled up in bed " Lights out, girls " was the last thing she ' d said. When out on the " heart " there rose such a noise She sprang from her bed convinced it was boys. She thought of poor Petra and wondered who ' d save her Then relaxed when she remembered the brave Mrs. Shaver. So off through the halls in slippers she scurried Her face plainly showing that still she was worried. " Come quickly " she called out, needing more hands To Chester and Kirby, Johnson and Sands. Soon they were joined by Linton and Lee This posse descended the stairs - what to see? There in the hall that is used for our dining Was gathered a crowd of young ladies a pining From Ryerson Lower and Frances Upper They all stood around the " man " eating his supper. The Dean dashed in muttering shoosh, shoosh. But Santa continued munching his push. " Fear not, my dear Dean " shouted old Saint Nick " I will finish my push " and be out of here quick. Then he rose from his chair so each clearly could see Across the back of his red jerkin it said S.A.C. From his bundle he pulled gift after gift Each one designed to give a girl a lift. For Sandy Menkes he had a blonde wig And Miller, Anne a smile that was big. For Christine H. he had an alarm clock For mornings she didn ' t hear the Dean ' s knock. For Read who ' s called Sarah some warm winter woolies For those mornings when her dad ' s car needs the pullies. For Cathy McGill a new pair of heels And Susan S. a gentle horse that just kneels. For Lori Belliveau an electric heater And Tracy and Melanie a room that was neater. For Lisa and Christine and Kelly-Ann Black He dug deeper and deeper into his sack And quickly pulled out three boys - all good looking Who also could do the washing and cooking. For Tina and Laura a couple of mora Who happened to be from the town of Aurora. And finally spying the Dean with the blues He gave her a pair of red running shoes. Then for the door he did suddenly leap And into his sleigh, an old Chevrolet. As he drove off in his broken down heap He was heard to say " Have a cool Christmas Day. " 28 Pickering and Saint Andrews at semiformal BAZAAR This year ' s bazaar was even bigger and better than last year ' s. All efforts were made with our two foster children in mind. Our guests, we ' re sure, had a very enjoyable day. We sold everything from costume jewelery to plants. Maxwell ' s table won first prize. No wonder, with all the goodies they had! Our fashion show, something new this year, was a smashing suc- cess. The unique selection modelled came from Vogue. Guests could relax and take refreshments in our common room. Lake Rousseau Ski Trip A weekend of skiing at Rosseau Lake has become a winter tradition. This is the second year for T.C.S. The guys at Rosseau Lake school enjoyed our company so much last year that they invited us back. We stayed at the Good Fellowship Lodge. The food was great! The skiing at Hidden Valley was terrific! Th e highlight of the weekend was a dance at the boys ' school, which was a real success. All the ski buffs are ready for next year ' s trip! Winter Carnival Despite the absence of snow, our Winter Carnival was a success. The guys from Picl ering participated in the winter games and then spent the evening watching a movie and getting down to the beat of the D.J. ' s music. Little did we know that we had a Queen amongst us. Adria Paxton won the Winter Carnival Queen Crown. This proved to be not good enough for her and she went on to surpass the other beauties of Whitby to a crowned Carnival Queen of Whitby. 44 Death of the Sixties From the opening number to the final curtain the Winter Concert was enjoyed by all. It was an astonishing metamorphosis to see girls who were strangers to a pair of high- heeled shoes and pressed dresses suddenly to don them for this oc- casion. We were all on our best behaviour for our " military leader " and staff. The mood was light as the various speeches were read but there was a hint of sadness as it was revealed to us that two of our teachers were leaving; Miss Kreklewitz and Miss Constantine. As usual, for special occasions the food was superb and we all left with a warm, happy feeling inside. -3a Drama Night THE CRADLE SONG by Gregqrio and Maria Martinez Sierra Cast in order of appearance: Sister Sagrario Lisa Edworthy Sister Marcella Jackie Kirby The Prioress Lisa Lafontaine Sister Joanna of the Cross Angel Adam The Mistress of Novices Jill Tucker The Vicaress Beth Trotter Sister Tornera Christine Peter Sister Inez Heather McDonald Countryman Margaret Scott Sister Maria Jesus Cathy Hargrave The Doctor Margaret Scott Teresa Melissa Smith Antonio Christine Linton Director: Christine Linton Stage Manager: Laurie Paxton Lighting: Kim Mahabir Make-up: Isabel Gonzalez Costumes: Christine Linton THE DIARY OF ANNE FRANK by Frances Goodrich and Albert Hackett Cast: Anne Frank Rebecca Lager Mr. Frank Adria Paxton Mrs. Frank Kathy Chester Margot Frank Dawn-Marie Molyneaux Mr. Van Daan Charlayne Ross Mrs. Van Daan Christine Hnatiuk Peter Van Daan Victoria Evans Mr. Dussel Tina Briliinger Miep Erin Smith Director: Christine Kirby Victoria Evans Stage Manager Jane Lloyd Best supporting actress Special Effects: Suzie Lafontaine Independent School Laurie Mitchell Drama Festival Prompter: Carolynn Archer Lighting: Kim Mahabir The Final Days The last few weeks of school are always very hectic. Here are a few reminders of some of the activities during the month of May and the beginning of June. There was the spring formal which Jane obviously enjoyed, May Day with Muffy and Miss Constantine ' manning ' the sound equipment, the gym and pool in the midst of renovations and Corolla at play in the lab during Open House. Yes, this certainly was a year of sports! Here ' s the famous Trafalgar ball team. Well, perhaps it isn ' t famous yet but just wait until next year! Mr. Kamcke, our coach, is sure that next year will be our year for glory! Class Day A very cool and windy day! It was difficult trying to coax the trophy winners outside to have pictures taken but here are a few of the girls who braved the cold to display their honour pins, trophies and Miss House awards. Yearbook Editor Gardenia Russell Here are the people who have worked throughout the year to record the events that have taken place at Trafalgar. This has been an exciting year, a year in which sports have played a prominent part. It is impossible to present all the activities but the yearbook staff hopes that you will find, between these covers, many happy memories. PATRONS OF VOX COLLEGII DR. and MRS. R. H.
