Branish completed his elementary and high school education in Phillipsburg, Pennsylvania, In 1953 he graduated from Indiana State Teacher's College with a B.S. Degree in Business Education. Upon graduation he entered the armed forces where he attained the rank of First Lieutenant in the Philadelphia Quartermaster's Depot. Mr. Branish came to Towanda High School in Septernber 1955 to teach in the business education department. In June 1959 he received his Master's Degree from The Pennsylvania State University in Education and Business Administration. He is now working on his Doctorate at the same institution. At the present, he is certified to teach all business education subjects except short- hand. Mr. Branish is particularly fond of sports, especially golf. I-le won a letter in four different sports in college, Since 1955, he has initiated wrestling as a varsity sport at T.V.H.S. and be- came its first coach. He also coached football here for three years. Mr. Branish has given his service to us in countless, valuable ways. We, the Tohirneki staff of 1962, are proud to dedicate our yearbook to a man who has proved to be not only a respected faculty member, but a trusted friend as well. This is but a humble tribute to a devoted teacher who has worked untiringly to aid the student body and to improve our school. With deepest sincerity, we thank you . . . Schrnoll, H. Griggs, Michael Carrigan, E. Blakely, Mrs. S. Sheffy, Mr, L, Smith, Mr, F, DeWitt, Mr. I. Koser, Mrs. C. Norton. As we, the class of 1962, leave the halls of Towanda High School for the last time, we wish to express our sincere appreciation to the many people who have endeavored to aid us during our school days. We wish to express our gratitude for the wonderful co-operation, leadership, and guidance given us by the faculty, supervisors, and directors. They have made our days here happy ones. Also we wish to express our deepest appreciation to our parents who have made un- limited sacrifices in our behalf. To them we give our most humble thanks. Now, as we leave our alma mater, we will face our problems confidently with the knowledge and understanding we have acquired here and with our faith in God. Respectfully, 'Ni 1 AMW' Harry L. Griggs President Class of 1962 22 C loss Hisfory As Freshmen in 1958 we elected Jedy Snyder to lead the class of 1962. Our vice- president was Tom Moyer and Sally Place, Judy Place, and Peggy Dickerson took positions as secretary, treasurer, and historian respectively. "The Freshman Soiree" was the name chosen for our first class function. The class sponsors for our Freshman year were Mrs. Janet Allen, Mr. Paul Hartman, Mr. Herman Kordalski, Miss Natalie Wilhour, and Mr. James White. Michael Carrigan led the class through the sophomore year. Chosen to aid him were Dawn Moore, vice-president, Kathy Hamilton, secretary, Suzy Clark, treasurerg and Peggy Dickerson, historian. On April 2, 1960, we held "Swing Into Spring," our sophomore dance. Mr. Kay Campbell, Mr. James Demski, Mrs. Linda Kindred, Mrs. Sandra McKey, and Mrs. Celia Talada were our advisors. As Juniors our goal of graduation was indeed drawing nearer. Michael Carrigan again served as class president with Harry Griggs, vice-president, Suzy Clark, secretaryg Lucie Jayne, treasurer, and Peggy Dickerson, historian. The Junior Prom, our first formal affair, was given the theme of "B1ue Hawaii." Mr. Frank Bialek, Miss Magdalene Billow, Mr. Kay Campbell, and Mr. Daniel Thomas were our junior sponsors. Suddenly we were seniors and we elected Harry Griggs to lead us through this, our golden year. Assisting him were vice-president, Michael Carrigang secretary, Ellen Blakely, treasurer, Tonie Schmollg and historian, Peggy Dickerson. Our class chose red and white for our colors and the Mamie Eisenhower carnation as our flower. For the theme ofour last formal dance, the Senior Ball, we used the theme of "Poinsettias in the Snow". Our class advisors for our senior year were Mr. Frank DeWitt, Mr. John Koser, Mrs. Carolyn Norton, Mrs. Sarah Sheffey, and Mr. Leonard Smith. After a whirlwind year, graduation was upon us and our high school days were fast coming to a close. We, the class of 1962, are now leaving Towanda High School, but we want to extend our deepest thanks to the innumerable people who have encouraged us in our quest for knowledge throughout our school days. Our future lies ahead and we are rushing to it with the eagerness of youths and the confidence of adults. 23 bvkx 'WWW gag I K!! I have had the most wonderful experience in my life here in Towanda. Nothing can take the place of the experience. The people who have shared these good times will be unforgettable. The memory of what I have seen, heard, thought, and learned will remain ever in my mind, even the most insignificant things. Towanda has become my home, as the people have become my true friends. I feel as though part of my heart will be left behind when I think of going back to Japan. We are always friends wherever we live, and we have the same desire for peace. My hope is that we continue to live hand in hand, understanding each other. Now, I would like to ask you as a last favor, to keep in your own kind and friendly hearts Toru, the Japanese boy, and his country. Toru Hosoda 54 X! 44 ff? :U 2- DONALD ANDERSON . . Publicity Committee The Publicity Committee was organized in the fall of 1959 to keep the community aware of the curriculum and events at Towanda High School. This was accomplished through a column called "What's Going on at TVJHS" in the local newspaper, The Daily Review. Until the fall of 1961, the group worked under the able direction of Mrs. Sheffey. At that time the project was shifted to the supervision of Mrs. Fronczkiewicz. Each Monday the members meet to receive assignments for articles to be written that week. By Thursday these articles are turned into Toni Schmoll for editing. The polished write-up is then typed and sent to the newspaper for publication in the Monday morning edition. 82 ' Camera Club ROW 1 - B. Kerrick, S. Prusack, C. Phillips, P. Stevens, N. Bullock, L. SECOND ROW: Sue Towner, Vicki Kinglsey, Alan Stevens, Thomas Blakely, Nancy Bullock, Carol Weisbrod. The ORACLE, Towanda's first school paper, was first published in 1910 in magazine form. For two or three years the paper was continuedg then be- cause of the high cost of publication during World War I it ceased to be pub- lished. In 1918 the 'school published the ORACLE again. After several inter- vals during which it was not published, in 1926, its name was changed to the Oriole and since then the paper has continued successfully under thatname to keep students informed of the latest school activities, to encourage free ex- pression of school ideas, and to bolster school spirit. So we, the members of this staff, leave the Oriole in the hands of you, next years students, to maintain the standard of our backers, for criticisms ofthe Oriole will always be constructive if a dearth of material is as remote in the editor's thoughts as the swimming of the Arctic 'Ocean by man. 88 Senior High Oriole FIRST ROW: Mrs. Celia T alada, advisory Mrs. Sarah Sheffy, advisorg Carol Webster, Marian Mcdonald, Elsie Goodman, Nanci Epstein, Mr. Frank DeWitt, advisor.
