This is where wesstudied for didn't studyj, laughed, gossiped, goofed off, got in trouble, made new friends and may- be even lost a few. But that was the way it was in our world. These pictures were taken with a Hsheye lensg sort of a different angle on things. At the top is the stairway at the south door of study hall, next is the library, below it is the teacher's lounge and the last is a picture of the upper' hall. I hope you enjoy the 1971 72 TOLOQ a book of our world. Colleen Briner-Editor John Rechsteiner-Asst. Editor Mary Ingels-Asst. This year we were also proud to have with us Guil- lermo jaramillo, the brother of one of THS's past foreign ex- change students. Bob Wilkinson was chosen for an AFS student from Toulon, but has not yet received his assignment. Bob Wilkinson INDEPENDENT STUDY STUDENTS: Amanda Appenheimer-Chemistry 8: Consumer Ed. This program, opened only to seniors provided an opportunity for the student to go into more advanced study in sub- jects taken in school or they could study subjects not included in the curriculum. In order to obtain an independent study, a student must fill out a contract telling what he 9 T U ED PY E N D I N D y E N l T wishes to study, how he plans to study, who will grade his study, and how he wants it graded. If the Faculty Committee approves his contract, he receives his study. I.S. students do not have to report to study hall. Instead they may report to the Independent Study Room. See my tonsils. and THEN .... I forgot my Cheerios. IIS like this yOu SCC. I'm winnin', I'm winnirf. Is that so? Run with me to South America TOULON HIGH SPONSORS SKI TRIP February 6, 52 students and teachers left for Four Lakes Ski Area at Lisle, Illinois. Apparently the early hours affected the stu- dents as there was one report of an attempt to hijack one of the buses to Cuba. The only other disturbance was a gas station stop required by one of the teach ers for some unknown reason. After stumbling through the procedures of renting equipment and fitting ski binding, we began our first ski lesson. How delight- ed the instructors were to see 43 beginners stumble towards them all at once. After walking around on the skis, kind of getting the feel of them, we moved to the "dope slope" to learn the bewildering movements called sidestepping, straight running, and snowplow- ing. The most important maneu- ver we learned, however, was the complex method of getting up after you fall down Qwhich most students found more effective than snowplowing for stoppingj. Having developed the se basic skills, we grabbed the rope tow and jerked up the slope, dodging skiers who had fallen along the way. Once on top, we stood around mustering the courage necessary to push off. As we got better and braver, we attempted the more difficult slopes. The ride home was noisy. We stopped somewhere near the Yorktown exit on Int. 80 for supper. Rumor has it that a cou- ple of girls were invited to go to Boston, but the chaperones gathered us together and herded us back to the buses. This was our world for awhile. As Seniors, this was our last year in T.H.S. It was a year of freshman initiation, Prom, class trip, gradua- tion, and other memories for the future.
