SENIOR PATIO .,g' S. me K 1. L. K, EDUCATION Mark Hopkins sat on one end of a log And a farm boy sat on the other, Mark Hopkins came as a pedagog And taught as an elder brother. I don't care what Mark Hopkins taught, If his Latin was small and his Greek was naught, For the farmer boy he thought, thought he, All through lecture time and quiz, "The kind of a man I want to be ls the kind of a man Mark Hopkins is!" So what about you teachers? Are they men who can stand in a father's place, Who are paid, best paid, by the ardent face When boyhood gives, as boyhood can, Its love and faith to a fine true man? No printed work nor spoken plea can teach Young hearts what men should be, Not all the books on all the shelves, But what the teachers are themselves, For Education is making men! So it is now, so was it when Mark Hopkins sat on one end of a log And James Garfield sat on the other. -Arthur Guiterman 5 Q ,2 1 3 ' Q l i I . .k ii Y , .A 2 Board of Education, Torrance Unified School District Judge John Shidler, Mrs. Grace Wright, Mr. Carl Steele, Dr. Rollin Smith Mr. William Tolson ond our high school principol, M 5' r. His power and speed led the Tartars in a 27 to 20 victory, Dandoy scoring 3 and Ferguson l. BEVERLY HILLS This was the only game ot the season in which the Tartars seemed overly confident, and the lack ot spirit on the Torrance team was one of the main factors which helped the Normans pull a I2 to 7 upset. SANTA MONICA The Tartars played the Bay League champs, Santa Monica, in the first game of the season, the powerful Vikings defeating Torrance in a 32 to 6 win. Torrance's only score came when End Irwin Kasten caught a pass for 6 digits. nl , .h tl. SEGUNDO The Tartars met the weak but spirited El Segundo Oilers on Torrance's field. Standouts were Aramis Dondoy with his fast and power- ful action and Guard Bill ,Gray with his skill in recovering 3 loose fumbles, but everyone helped toward the 25 to O decisive victory over the Oilers, INGLEWOOD Torrance played their last game ot the season against the lnglewood Sentinels.
