My I 'rfwr-,Q, , ,J - Us esisattt THE SPIRIT OF '58 is invisible, but it is always present and we know its char- acter and its source. This spirit is sus- tained by the boys and girls, men and women, who make up Top-Hi's community. Just as you have created this feeling, you have helped create this book. Your staff has recorded your year for you with the hope that both the year and the book have been opened with expectation and closed with profit. It is your year and your book because you helped make it. Without the contributions made by each staff member, this Tohiscan would never hint at all your memories. Unlike most other groups in the school, your staff worked through the year with little visible proof of the results of their efforts. This book, finally, now shows the quality of work, only staff members can know its quantity. As their editor, I thank them, not only for their efforts, but for their fine spirt during the year. No one realizes the hard work an advisor must put forth. A staff can work in relaysg an advisor's job is constant, To you, Miss Finch, I'd like to say that I will always be grateful for all the time and assistance you have given me in the production of this year's annual. Appreciation can not be really expressed for your share in this record of the spirit of '58. ,,....-uae U O THE SPIRIT 0 TOP HI leaders Administration School Board, Board of Control, ASB Officers Faculty - Cooks Janitors, Bus Drivers FIRST AND LAST PAGE SENIOPS ENTERING AND LEAVING JUDY Senlor-S RUSSELL DON IVIARK Officers Advisors History HAM AND AJ STRON' Members and Snaps Ball and Play Juniors Officers Advisors History Play Sophomores Officers Advisors History Members and Snaps Homecomlng A studious weekend is ahead for Loyal Top Hi fans watch a Ted Frlend captain of a team senior Gary Clark soaring football that didn t quit by 5 F . ..33 ' .....34 . . ....... . .... 3540 . . ..76 I I ---.-,,- ' , ' , - . . .9 .. . . . . . . 10-19 ..20-21 . A non-conference game followed in which Toppenish smothered Bellevue 66-47. League action resumed as the 'Cats evened their conference record by defeating the Eisenhower Cadets in a tight ballgame 40-33 but Top-Hi couldnt get past the taller Sunnyside team which scored 50 points while Top-Hi could only get 39. Then Toppenish proved itself to its fans by getting the first win in basket- ball since 1952 over Wapato in a thrill-packed 58-45 win. The 'Cats failed to get two wins in a weekend as they were bottled up by the Davis Pirates 62-56 The Wildcats then scored their first two victories in a row by scoring an upset over Ellensburg 52-47 and dropping Kennewick 62-50 Top-Hi moved into action against Pasco and Jan Garner led the 'Cats to a 72-62 win as he scored 35 points an AALeague scoring record- in the return match Pasco overcame Top-Hi 57-42 The 'Cats were routed by the Bombers in the second meeting 64-31 and again Top-Hi came back dropping the Eisenhower Cadets 61-54. Sunnyside turned away Top-Hi in the second meeting 54-39 but VK apato was the next victim of the Wildcats who sneaked by them 52-49 in a tight exciting game. The last victory of the 'Cats came against Davis revenging the earlier loss to them in a hard fought 56-43 game. The last two games of the year saw Top-Hi handicapped by the loss of M. D McMican and Kelly Barnes dropped by Ellensburg 58-50 and dumped by Kennewick 74-55. Top-Hi moved into the AA Tournament meeting Wapato the third time The Wolves and the 'Cats played an even game moving into overtime. The 'Cats then lost Jan Garner and M D McMican on fouls and the Wolves went on to win 46-45 eliminating the 'Cats from the tournament. Jan was selected by his teammates as the Inspirational Player of the year and Milford Willmon was selected as the Captain for next year. 71 X! , ' I 1' X f V 4 5 ' 'L ' i i 43 K I if . ri f.i , 4?
