Approximately 30 inches of snow fell in the Topeka area, making the winter one of the worst in the history of the city. The city suffered 54 continuous days of snow cover. The snow caused many inconveniences to residents of Topeka. Streets were congested with slow-moving traffic and numberous fender benders. The Board of Education closed down USD 501 schools Jan. 2, due to 11 inches of snow dumped on the city New Year's Eve. The snow was not a disappointment for those who enjoy winter recreation. Many took advantage of the white stuff to get out and do some sledding at Quinton Heights Hill and ice skating at various ponds around the city - anything to rid them of cabin fever. ,virga 4 is V f,'-WH? Students who enrolled in Les Kuhns' fifth hour forensics class sec- ond semester soon found out that forensics involved a lot more than just five hours of class per week. There were tournaments to attend on Saturdays and time to spend working on the various aspects of forensics. The different areas of for- ensics included original oration, dra- matic interpretation, improvised duet acting, and informative speak- ing, to name a few.
