Qomekzeme GIWQGIEDYB fait euuminiy eilxtlee email iuvexu-mx eemmdlig Eagtaaemee Many Topekans dreamt of sunny skies and warm, sandy beaches as they fought the bitter winter weather of '79. Approximately 30 inches of snow fell in the Topeka area, making the winter one of the worst in the history of the city. The city suffered 54 continuous days of snow cover. The snow caused many inconveniences to residents of Topeka. Streets were congested with slow-moving traffic and numberous fender benders. The Board of Education closed down USD 501 schools Jan. 2, due to 11 inches of snow dumped on the city New Year's Eve. The snow was not a disappointment for those who enjoy winter recreation. Many took advantage of the white stuff to get out and do some sledding at Quinton Heights Hill and ice skating at various ponds around the city - anything to rid them of cabin fever. ,virga 4 is V f,'-WH?
