The Work Experience Program and the Teacher Aide Program were pro- vided for those students wanting ex- perience and school credit, More than 75 students held jobs ranging from a delivery person, to a bank clerk, to a woodcutter. More than four students worked as teacher aides in junior high and grade schools. The students were evaluat- ed on a credit no-credit basis. Ran- dol Walker, E School assistant princi- pal, headed the program. The Kaw Area Vocational-Technical School was open to anyone 16 and older. Twenty-one Chargers were among the approximately 1,200 stu- dents who attended day classes and the 1,100 who attended night classes. Twenty-six courses were of- fered in three- and five-hour days. Her goal as teacher was to help stu- dents not with emotional, physical, or cultural problems, but those hav- ing difficulty achieving regular class- room studies. Some of the most common problems shared by her students were reading, writing, spell- ing and math skills. To help the kids with these problems, Mrs. Lobel started at the base knowledge of the individual or group. The kids she worked with had to have an average to above average intelligence. Classes ranged in sizes of four to eight students, and they all received academic credit.
