Even paying for a jewelry box or a table can cost a considerable amount. Industrial arts classes helped stu- dents avoid some of these costs of modern living by teaching them how to run machines used for building and by informing them about the mechanics of a car. LEFT: Gluirig his project together and clamp- ing it is Bruce Coleman, '8O. TOP LEFT: Sand- ing a piece of wood on a drill press in wood- working class is Ted Young, '8O. ABOVE: With great determination Bill Grant, '80, sands the edge of the wood smooth. Electronics, mechanical drawing, metals, woodworking and auto infor- mation were the industrial arts classes offered. While students in mechanical drawing were working on floor plans, students in wood- working were building jewelry boxes as a requirement for the course. Industrial arts teachers were Dan In- man, Cecil Wichert and David Ron- dash.

REI of Glmeeiino me EIGDKIEI To get the license to fulfill every kid's dream of driving a car, 10 sections of driver education were offered. About 320 students acquired their licenses with the help of teachers Jack Wiley and Mike Jamison. Mr. Wiley said there were more sopho- mores this year than there have been in the past. The cars they drove were mid-sized Chevrolets and Pontiacs donated to the school by Kent Brown Chevrolet and Dale Sharp Pontiac. To get a license,-the students had to have a minimum of 3 hours behind the wheel, 12 hours simulation and 30 hours class time. The remaining time was spent in the student center. Driving each car about 3,000 miles before trading it in, students drove four or five differ- ent cars during the year. Some stu- dents got discounts of up to 20 per- cent on their car insurance if they passed the class. N,-i is 1 .c...,.,..v-4' .,., , ...fe-..- ,mv- ' , , ..f:-vsvffv' g in sbff -..nu
