Not everyone will be an Olympic star, but anyone can keep himself in good physical shape. P.E. classes offered activities such as archery, tennis, weight training, volleyball and aerobics. Mrs. Peggy Marmet from Washburn University and Jerry Wright produced a slide- tape program designed to help con- cepts students learn how their bo- dies function and the importance of keeping them physically fit. Con- cepts classes worked on lab activi- ties which allowed students to know what to do to improve their fitness. Other P.E. teachers were Mrs. Su- san Affolter, Ron Stull, Frank Walton and Mrs. Cindy Medill. Even though most students took P.E. as a requirement, their loudest complaint was about the gross, grubby, abused blue gym suits the girls were forced to wear. Some of the things students learned were the food customs and cultures of different regions of the United States, as well as the varying lifes- tyles among the people, the stages of development that all children go through, the principles of design, which they incorporated into individ- ual design projects, and how to help each other with their problems. Some of the courses offered were PEER group dynamics, Clothing 1-2, Foods 1-2, parenthood education, child development, home decora- tion and international foods. PEER group dynamics was a second- year based on the idea that students seek help from other students when they have a problem, and that stu- dents know when other students need help. Training sessions focused on self-awareness activities, com- munication skills, and goal setting, as well as other things important in developing relationships with other people.
