Elnalimaiafa Beam waltxfae ezfi-miata For Les Kuhns, his first year as coach of the debate squad brought quite a surprise -first place at the Class 6A State Tournament at Kan- sas State University on Jan. 25 and 26. The 6-1 record of the negative team of Tom Akins, '79, and Andy Welch, '80, and the 5-2 record of the affirmative team of Mark Lynch, '79, and Joe Weissbeck, '79, led to the combined 11-3 record which cap- tured the victory at State. But debate wasn't all work and no play as was demonstrated on March 16, when the debaters took on the disc jockeys of V-100 in a fund-rais- ing basketball game. Compe- tition in contests such as Washburn University math contest and the Na- tional math contest were entered by students. Courses offered were: algebra, anal- ysis, applied math, trigonometry, business math, geometry, elemen- tary functions and computations skills.
