GIUJQQIGIQQQ QJEPCBEEJQI 521995993 With inter-continental travel being commonplace in today's Space Age, the ability to speak a foreign lan- guage fluently would be a great as- set. Jobs in government service and air travel are also open to those who speak foreign languages. ln Spanish, French, Latin and Ger- man classes, students learned by speaking, reading, Writing, singing, dancing, cooking foreign foods and other activities. Spanish students participated in a contest in Wichita where they were judged for their ability to pronounce letters and words. French students took an imaginary trip to France, speaking only French while buying plane tickets, getting passports and exchanging American money for francs. With nine different courses of- fered, students had no difficulty find- ing a class that interested them. Classes included botany, chemistry, biology, physiology, physics, pho- tography, astronomy and human ecology. To ac- complish this goal, teachers planned field trips to KPZLL in Lawrence, Kan- sas State University and other places of interest, They also had var- ious projects for the students to do, such as making a terrarium in Dr. Robert Benortham's applied botany classes.
