eilil Deja euro me Eliallom New to West this year has been the addition of the yell leaders. This group of men aided the cheer- leaders by helping in formations, leading student cheers, ringing the bell and assisting in pep assemblies. Leading student cheering at athletic events was just one of the duties of the Topeka West cheerleaders. Be- hind the scenes they promoted spir- it, pride and enthusiasm for the school. Organizing and performing in school pep assemblies was also a major responsibility of the cheer- leaders. The cheerleading squads combined to sell 360 white and purple cowboy hats to wave at the games. Captains this year were Natalie Evanson for the varsity squad, Marty Young for the junior varsity and Chris Pierce headed the yell leaders. They are all excellent groups. They work hard and they participate as a unit, said Miss Beverly Bernardi, cheerleader sponsor. . 4i.'J-Q. -L.,-4,w'z .rf 15 ffij..-+ . ' '3i3'f'Zl'-Zxl2i'f3'-'ri rx. . is . eeiaetl ewes UEIBQQWB Ceteeiuri The precision of the drill team, wit- nessed at home football and basket- ball games, took time and dedica- tion. Beginning last summer and continuing through the year, the team practiced diligently in first hour along with additional morning practices. The hard work paid big dividends in pride and enthusiasm. The Westsiders worked under the guidance of Mrs. Susan Affolter, Captain Carol DeSelm and Co-Cap- tain Sheri Ball. Popcorn was the big money-maker as the team sold S600 worth to pur- chase cowboy hats. This is a very dedicated group who thoroughly enjoy working together, said Mrs. Affolter.
