E-'Eltnfall cgjemeil Els: exfacsemfingpuileziimfacil With a respectable seventh place showing in the state meet, the wom- en's gymnastics team polished off their final goal of the season. A first place finish in city and a successful season took care of the other goals. First year Coach Cindy Medill took over a young and relatively inexperi- enced squad. The team was made up of only two seniors, one junior and six promising sophomores. The best competition in the state competed and our girls held their own, said Coach Medill. ..,.......,.-mn-gm rw- m , ga ' ' Qi? pl I N '14 .Q lqllfqm ww A 9-WMM, iiil l , rx ..........,-.-1.- ,,,......-.wr-aw TOP: Performing on the uneven bars is Caro- lyn Pitts, '81, ABOVE: Robin Livingston, '81, eyes her next move. eilil Deja euro me Eliallom New to West this year has been the addition of the yell leaders. This group of men aided the cheer- leaders by helping in formations, leading student cheers, ringing the bell and assisting in pep assemblies. Leading student cheering at athletic events was just one of the duties of the Topeka West cheerleaders. Be- hind the scenes they promoted spir- it, pride and enthusiasm for the school. Organizing and performing in school pep assemblies was also a major responsibility of the cheer- leaders. The cheerleading squads combined to sell 360 white and purple cowboy hats to wave at the games. Captains this year were Natalie Evanson for the varsity squad, Marty Young for the junior varsity and Chris Pierce headed the yell leaders. They are all excellent groups. They work hard and they participate as a unit, said Miss Beverly Bernardi, cheerleader sponsor. . 4i.'J-Q. -L.,-4,w'z .rf 15 ffij..-+ . ' '3i3'f'Zl'-Zxl2i'f3'-'ri rx. . is .
