Chargers Receive cademie Honors Topeka West High School rec- ognized 122 students at the annu- al Honors Assembly May 1 in the school auditorium. The assembly was held to hon- or those students who showed outstanding ability in various fields. Kristi Newbery, honor points secretary, intro- duced Associate Principal Rome Mitchell and de- partment chairpersons, who distributed the awards. Art Department awards were received by: Charles Barber, Tammy Bervert. Steve Knoll, Da- vid Lundblade. Margaret Mah. Sheryl McAndrew. Susan Nelson, Marci Neuer, Tim Thomas, Kelly Thorp, Mike Wallace and Cheryl White Business Department awards were received by: Gail Blackburn, Suzanne johnson, Randy Mills, Debbie Rowe, Sandy Sadler, Mary Stauffer, jay- lene VVehmeier, Sherri Wichert and Vonda Wi- chert. Foreign Language Department awards were re- ceived by: German - Dan Deganhardt, Sally Finney, Pat- ty Sullivan. Latin - Scott Eudaly, Mark Goddard, Titus walt. French - Diana Gudenkauf, Kerri Mommer and Mary Powell. Spanish - Debbie Rowe, Vicki Shurtz and Sheryl Wallace. Home Economics Department awards were re- ceived by: Lori Anderson, Connie Docker, Gwynne Gale, Becky Hoots, Cheryl Hungerford and Pam Shields. Industrial Arts Department awards were re- ceived by: Randy Atlierly, Brad Brunkow, Steve Goebel, Rick Goldfuss, Ron Harding, jeff jones, Charles Oblander, Pat Thomas and Todd Wil' liams. Instrumental Music Department awards were received by jeanine Gilman, Susan Funk, Mike Pierce and David Lundry. Language Arts Department awards were re- ceived by: MaryTeresa Doyle, Salley Finney, Gwynne Gale, jennifer jackson, Anita Miller and Anne Morrison. Math Department awards were received by Cary Curphy, Scott Eudaley, Susan Funk, joel Ginsparg, Katie Gillispie, Richard Greene, jeff jones, Steve Loechel, Hani Moussa and Kathy Ra- bin. Physical Education awards were received by: Don Cathey and Nancy Mah. Science Department awards were received by: Lisa Arnone, Kathy Gillispie, joel Ginsparg, Pete Kowalski, Steve Knoll, Paul Neal, Kathy Rabin, Mike Schuster, Wayne Smith, Bob Tozer, john Trump and Todd Walters. Social Studies Department awards were re- ceived by: Ann Ardis, Lisa Beymer, Colleen Far- rell, Tom Coering, Richard Greene, Leslie Guild, Stuart Haney, Pete Kowalski, Paul Neal, Doug Oelschlaeger, Mary Waddell, William Weissbeck and Sherri Wichert. Graduates Share Mixed Emotions Three years at Topeka West came to an end as the class of 1975 came together for the last time May 27 for commencement exercises in Moore Bowl at Wash- burn University. Dr. Owen Hen- son, an assistant superintendent of schools and former Topeka West principal, was guest speaker. With their daily pilgrimages to school finally over, 420 seniors found themselves victims of mixed emotions. joyous feelings -.X , gave way to a more solemn mood i , Q 1 X . as friends parted and individuals made their way into the unknown future. ' Agn-ss 'I.1 .A White Rose Processionul, composed of about 200 junior girls, is prepared to march into Moore Bowl, ABOVE. The graduation ceremony concluded with grads throwing their caps high into the air, TOP RIGHT. Vicky Obley, TOP LEFT, picks up her diploma in the school lobby, but Assoc. Prin. Rome Mitchell, FAR RIGHT, appears unsure whether to reprimand or congratu- late the newly graduated Mary Waddell. 14
