Tozer Takes Chargers To State For the Topeka West swim team this year, everything was changed, but nothing was changed. True, girls were competing alongside the boys this year for the Chargers, and they made considerable contributions to the team, but once again it was Bob Tozer who singlehandedly placed West fifteenth in the state with a ninth place finish in the 100-yard backstroke. The Chargers ended the sea- son with a 5-6 dual meet record, over 50 per cent better than last season, and the girls shared some of the load. No fewer than five times this season either Paula Smith or Heidi Harris finished first in her event, ahead of both her male team- mates and male opponents, and both girls placed consistently all year. In the Salina 4A Invitational, which is equivalent to a state 4A championship, the Chargers placed fourth with Bob Tozer placing second in the 100-yard backstroke and third in the 200- yard individual medley. The Chargers placed seventh in the Sunflower League meet, with Bob Tozer placing third in both the 100-yard backstroke and the 200-yard individual medley and Paula Smith plac- ing fifth in the 500-yard freestyle. -,f- ,.
