ut UOIIIIIE participants in a skit performed bv the junior Class during an assembly in September to promote the f ctnitx tickets is Niatt Boatwriqhl Asemblies Help Charger Spirit For a rest during a busy day, assemblies were attended with enthusiasm by Topeka West students. Raging from prominent po- litical figures to the traditional Homecoming, Snow Ball and Queen of Courts assemblies, a variety of subjects were cov- ered to keep student interest. Former Kansas City Chief linebacker Willie Lanier spoke to students on Born To Winf, Mrs. Martha Keys, later elected U.S. Representative, explained her political platform to stu- dents. Pep assemblies and athletic assemblies upheld the sports and spirit aspect of school life. Music and theater depart- ments also sponsored special assemblies for the benefit of students. r,.,, Y Mk In an assembly two students from each class were to sing the school song, but only seniors Laurie Marvin and Richard Greene could do it. 144

Vampires Invade Charger Land The first fall play, Drac- ula, was produced from an adaptation by Phil Crecian, '66, who works with the Topeka Bath House Players at Cage Park. The play, which dwells on the terror and suspense of vam- pires, required four weeks to rewrite and two weeks to polish. In the words of the play- wright, who saw the last show- ing, It was a very good high school perform ance. The play was directed by Mrs. Mary Doveton and Jay Ives. CAST Brian Evans ................
