The sophomore cheer leaders promoted and encouraged spirit throughout sophomore basketball and football games they also attended the varsity sports. junior Varsity ew To West New to Topeka West were the junior Varsity cheerleaders, consisting of senior and junior girls. The team was established to assist A Team and represent the Chargers at events not pre- viously attended by West cheer- leaders. Leading cheers, smiling and showing true Charger spirit were this year's A Team cheer- leaders. The team, composed of one senior and six juniors, cheered at varsity football and basketball games, swimming and cross country meets. Encouraging the sophomore athletic squads was the goal of the B Team cheerleaders. The five girls also helped lead cheers at the varsity games. junior Varsity Cheerleaders. Drill Team Adds To School Spirit For the first time Drill Team was offered as a class - and the result was a more unified team and a greater variety of rou- tines. Rock Salt, Kansas City and Mame were among the many tunes the 40 girls performed to. Clad in traditional purple and white, Drill Team enter- tained at home basketball and football games, the Homecom- ing parade and the KU Band Day. Mrs. Linda Rogers, who re- signed after her fifth year, taught the class and devoted additional hours to team pro- jects such as a bake sale and Christmas Grams. Drill Team forms a circle during a halftime routine at M oore Bowl during a halftime routine is Fernkopf, '77. Drill Team members participate inthe Homecoming parade along with the Topeka West Charger band.
