Phys Ed Classes Keep In Shape Girls' physical education classes were headed by two new teachers, Mrs. Cindy Boyles and Mrs. Peggy Marmet. Their program stressed helping individuals know why physical activity and exercises were important as well as knowing how to perform them. i'The girls were tested in the areas of cardi-vascular fitness, muscular strength and endur- ance and flexibility. Students were retested at the end of the year to determine improve- mentf' said Mrs. Boyles. Boys, phys ed participated in activities such as badmitten, handball, shuffleboard, and soccer. Mr. Allen and Mr. Swartz were joined by new ar- rival Mr. Wright. Linda Laird. '77, and Sharon Baclterman, '77, carefully attempt a crayfish disscc tion. one ofthe many aspects of biological study taught this year. Science Classes Talk To Plants 'KMy, you sure look green today. This might have been a familiar statement in the ap- plied botany class as students took on the new fad of talking to plants to encourage growth. Students raised a variety of plants and learned to make at- tractive floral arrangements which they loaned to offices and classrooms. Other science-related classes were physics, astronomy, hu- man ecology, chemistry, video tape production, human anato- my and physiology and biology. 116 Human ecology, taught by Dave Umbarger, is one of the wide vari classes offered to West students in the field of science. X- vt Y K X Enthusiastically, Terri Whitney and john Weaver experiment with various astronomy calculations. f
