Home Economics Becomes Coed Whoever thought home eco- nomics would become a coedu- cational course? At Topeka West it did. The young men learned to cook and live as a bachelor. This was a new begin- ning of home ec in Charger Country. Cooking offerings included International Foods and ad- vanced food classes. Many stu- dents learned about the devel- opment of children and home decoration. Tailoring class was added to the departmenfs curriculum. Donna Haen. a student teacher for Home Decoration ' aids Karen Kohn, '76, in designing a final project Mr-s. Pressman helped students while they made cardboard foundations for cookie houses which were given to KNI, Stormont-Vail and Preshxterlan Manor 100

Industrial Arts Skills Acquired Coming out ofthe loud din of machinery and voices in the industrial arts classes this year were many ingenious projects besides the required jewelry or tool boxes. These classes, including woodshop, metal shop, mechin- ical drawing and welding, gave students experience and a basic idea of how things were manu- factured. With an understanding of the basic principles, students were led to more advanced tech- niques and an idea of how to use the skills acquired. Skillfully positioning a sheet of metal for sawing is Mike Cosser Vt orking on his first required project in Woods 1, a jewelry box made from the students choice of wood, is sophomore james Shimp,
