Sponsored by the Crowell-Collier and the Curtis publishing companies, who offer an amazing variety of popular magazines, this project has be- come the biggest money-making program during the school year. Although the Senior Class obtains the greatest financial aid from it, each of the other three classes receives a percentage of the profit, de- pending upon how much that class sells. The Senior Class uses this revenue to meet expenses of graduation, the prom, and other events during the school year. The chairman of this year's magazine sale committee was Gary Gath. This com- mittee, capably and loyally assisted by its faculty adviser, Nlrs. ltockett, was successful in pushing this yearis total receipts well over the 335,000 goal, the larg- est goal ever set in the history of magazine sales in our school. The top girl salesman in the school was Audrey Ullenbittle, a freshman, and Thomas Rutkowski, also a freshman, was high boy salesman. fNIr. llnghes and Mr. Abell's homerooms won theater parties for having the highest homeroom sales. VVith nine letter men back from last yearand a great deal of enthusiasm, Coach Small led his gallant band of "Warriors,' to a third place berth in the N. F. L. this year for Tonawandais best record in seven years. The final standing was four wins, two losses, and one tie. The two losses were at the hands of undefeated champion Kenmore and of a very powerful and much larger Niagara Falls eleven, scored upon by only two teams, one being Tonawanda. The most outstanding performance of the year was Tonawanda's 14-13 conquering of Cross-canal rival North Tonawanda. This was the first time we had defeated N. T. since 1945. The team was well supported by the biggest pep assembly and pep rally in several years. T. ll. S. fans will remember this contest for years to come. Mel- chow, J. Urban. On March 28, 1953, the Tonawanda High School track team signed 34 members. Seven let- termen returned, and under the guidance of Mr. Hetzel practice was begun. In three dual meets we won twice. The two quadrangular meets found us third. In the N. F. L. meet held at N.T. in the rain, we finished fifth in the league. This meet ended the league season with Hayes, Haendiges, and Sereno undefeated. The Section VI AAA meet was held at Kenmore High: nine teams competed and the meet,s end found us in fifth place. The high spot of the meet occurred when Pete Hayes, holder of the NFL record, established a new mark in the discus event. Pete's throw was a tremendous heave of 140 feet, fly! inches. Letter winners for the season were: G. Burgin, K. Collins, D. Ehde, C. Foels, C. Haendiges, P. Hayes, J. Keller, W. Miskho, E. Sereno, E. Trosin, J. Urban, and G. Jacobs. . . W, X Cf Haendiges E.
