f H xv Christian Association N THE W1-IOLESOME Christian influence perpetuated at Tome, the Christian Asso- ciation plays a most substantial part. This group of boys, gathering every Sunday eve- ning after Vespers, procures an honest view of Christian standards of conduct, which, in later life, enables them to acquire and practice clean habits as well as cherish lofty ideals. At these gatherings, which are not of a devotional nature, an attempt is made to discuss frankly and without embarrassment the problems arising in the life of every school-boy. At the usual meeting a member or the supervisor will speak on some topic in keeping with the object of the organization, pausing to ask questions and to observe what his fellow members' opinions are on that particular subject. Much to the advantage of the members, the club has been able, in the last year, to secure no small number of outside speakers from various clubs and universities. Although attendance is voluntary, at every conclave a large body of students may be found. Assisted by a small Council, the President and Secretary take charge of the meetings and direct the business of the Association. The following are the officers of the club: Preridenz .................................................................. RICHARD H. BETTES Vine-Prerident ......... ........ W ILLIAM C. HANWAY, DIR. Secretary .............. ............ G 1.E15soN MURPHY, Jn. Faculty Superviror ......... ........ M R. EMORY S. BASI-'ORD The Council consists of: Philip Rorty, jr. Practice in preparation for the concerts was held in the Chapel at seven o'cl0ck in the evening at more or less regular intervals, beginning in September. The first program was presented before the student body on the Friday evening preceding the Christmas vacation, and the arrangement of eight selections, two of which were solos by Filbert Hitch, was much enjoyed by all. The February Prom was the joyous occasion for the next presentation of the Club. This performance, together with two plays given by the Dramatic Club and the pieces played by the orchestra, was rendered for the entertainment of the students and their guests prior to the formal dance. The Glee Club's program, which consisted of a pleas- ing combination of college Glees, negro ballads, popular and classical numbers, was enthusiastically received. Undoubtedly the best performance of the concert was the solo singing of Hoagland. At the time THE TRAIL goes to press preparations are under way for the concerts at Martha Washington Seminary and the june Prom. These appear- ances will undoubtedly add still more to the prestige of the Club. Eigbly-nine
