These four were Russell Wetmore, George F. Medill, Charles W. Bulkley, and James A. Van Hook, all of whom are freshmen at Princeton. From the Class of 1929 two men, Robert Francis Shepherd and Robert Maclary Diggs, were selected for early initiation at the public meeting on the eleventh of janu- ary. Both had exceptionally high averages, and the class can be proud of its scholastic champions, who have, in addition, been active in the many-sided life of the School. Shepherd also captured the Lloyd Andrews Hamilton prize, awarded by Cum Laude for excellence in College Board Examinations in june. Dean Christian Gauss, of Princeton, a trustee of the School, addressed the chapter and the School on the importance of purpose in the attainment of happiness and success both in college and later days. After the address the Chapter and the Senior Class were entertained by the Director and Mrs. Brush at their home. Unfortunately, when this book goes to press, those others who will win Cum Laude honors are not yet known, but, whoever they may be, the honor men will be worthy representatives of the Class of 1929 and of Tome. affix' N' X5 Serenly-nine

LARK Faculty Advisor. ......... .............. M R. BASFORD HE QUILL AND TOME CLUB has had a very successful year. Much good literature has been read and discussed by its members, who have all seemed to take an active part and a keen interest in its work. There have been more outside speakers than in previous years, and each has furthered the enjoyment of the members of the Club. At the first meeting of the year Mr. Basford spoke briefly on the nrles and purpose of the club, the latter of which he explained as to give a fuller and wider knowledge of modern literature than the ordinary reading requirements necessitate. Helvensron then spoke on The Americanization of Edward Bok, an interesting autobiography. Nine more boys were elected to membership. The second meeting was featured by a talk by Diggs on Dean Briggs. Mr. Basford also explained the use of the Club's library. At the next meeting Mr. Charles Lemmi, of Goucher College, spoke on the subject of Games in Connection with Eng- lish Literature. Five more boys were elected to membership just before the next meeting, at which Hanway gave a short talk on jeffrey Farnol, and Merrill reviewed john Brown's Body. Two weeks later Mr. Basford reviewed Point Counter Point, and was followed by Law, who spoke on Booth Tarkington and two of his works. Mr. Donald Kirkley, dramatic critic for the Baltimore Sun,,' addressed the club at the last meeting before THE TRAIL goes to press on Movies as the Most Dangerous Competitor of Literature.
