The 1929 TRAIL was e g ga- -f e be To further inform those who never knew of this project, we shall quote from the edi- torials of the 1923 TRAIL. As The TRAIL goes to press, work is being started on the Tome outdoor theatre. The building of this new and beautiful addition to our campus will bring to mind the remarkable strides which dramatics have taken in two years at Tome. Founded in the Fall of 1921 by Mr. Donahue and an earnest group of lads who had a whole-hearted interest in the American drama, The Tome Players have become such a proud Paft of the school life that our director has seen fit to send the players forth to show the world a sample of the genuine spirit of worth and work with which this school is endowed. The outdoor theatre, of course, will not be finished at once. Nor will the work of the Tome Players cease to be one of constant improvement until it establishes a new and greater standard for the drama that honestly portrays youth. Such and only such was the intent of its founder, the wish of Dr. Brush. We admit without hesitation that the Tome Players fell back after Mr. Donahue left school, but we think that the excellent showing made by them since Mr. Basford undertook supervision has made a renewal of the promise to the point. ft Stl ,, 4 ju fc Nineteen

The 1929 TRAIL bdf- -f -- nf- -- -bo' IE lD Il ll' 'U ID ll A IL Jf r A Big Year HE SCHOLASTIC YEAR of 1928-1929 has, in our opinion, been one of the best expe- rienced at Tome. Scholastically, the percentage of ineligibility has dropped somewhat from that of the preceding years, and there is a much smaller number of boys unable to carry all their work than heretofore. Athletically, the football team scored its third consecutive victory over Gilman, although losing the other major games, the basketball and soccer teams have both been the best developed here in recent years, while the swim- ming team placed Srst in the South Atlantic Championships for the sixth time in as many years, and the outlook for spring sports is bright. Interest in track has reached the point it attained in the days of the Interscholastic Meet, the golf material is the best in years, the tennis team promises to be fairly successful, and veteran battery men ' ' 'd- P ' niversall a reed to have returned for baseball. Socially, the M1 Winter rom is u y g have been the best ever held at Tome. Innovations The year has been one of innovations. The Aviation Club was formed by Presley and Lark, and has managed not only to survive the year, but also to obtain good outside speakers and to attract as much attention as any of the extra-curricular activities. A d h d cessful season, short cross-country team was organized in the fall, an a a most suc though it may have been. Mr. Tuttle, himself a former college star, was instrumental in forming and developing this team. Its success may be better realized by the fact that the Athletic Council recognized the team and awarded minor letters in the sport than by any long dissertation. Mr. Pentz is attempting to start Lacrosse as the TRAIL goes to press, but it is too early to make any prophecy regarding the success of this venture. The Tome Our sister publication, The Tome, has improved considerably during the past year under the splendid editorship of Gleeson Murphy, being changed in many details. A radical chan e for the better was made soon after he became Editor-in-Chief, a different 8 type of make-up and more copious headlines now being utilized. This fall several . . . d columns were introduced, and questionnaires and similar items have appeare from time to time to increase interest in the paper. We wish to take this opportunity to con- gratulate Murphy on his splendid management of the paper. The Dramatic Club During the last two years interest in Dramatics has increased appreciably, and we are wondering what has happened to the outdoor theatre promised some six years ago. Eighteen
