The 1929 TRAIL we--- . . .. 5 - .- - . be meets were won by them. The Coatesville Y. M. C. A. team, which next ventured to invade Tome's defences, was defeated by the tremendous score of 50-11. Every first place was captured with comparatively little effort. Hanway, receiving ten points for gaining hrst place in the dives and in the breast stroke, was high scorer of the day. Practically every member who competed in the meet secured points towards making that complete victory. In a like manner Poly was swamped in the third dual meet of the season, the score being 51-17. The only events ceded to Poly were the breast stroke and the 50-yard free style, in which the visiting team showed itself superior. Bastian again distinguished himself by nosing out his opponent in the 100-yard dash. Palmros, Craven, Hanway, Wise, and Murphy also stood out with almost as much brilliance. Although not characterized by a large majority of points, the score being 38-24, the vanquishing of Peddie's swimming team was an important conquest for Tome. First places were well divided, and it was the constant determination of every Tome entrant to place in his event that scored the other points, to achieve the triumph. The dives were won by Murphy, while Bastian and Palmros were conspicuous in the dashes. Swimming with every ounce of energy the mermen emerged triumphant from the contest at the Baltimore Athletic Club. With a score of 49 points, which exceeded that of the school in second place by twenty-seven, Coach Ryan's team won that conflict for the sixth time. Captain Bastian established a new pool record for the 220-yard swim there, and, literally, the Tome fellows ran away with the meet. The next and last meet of the year, which was staged with Loyola High School, was more than a runaway for the Tome swimmers, Loyola gaining only seventeen points while Tome ran its score up to fifty-seven. Virtually every member of the varsity squad participated, and each gave a performance which far surpassed that of the Loyola men. Zuill, with ten points, was the high scorer of the day, although the entire squad deserves considerable credit. Not only did the spirit and willingness of the members of the team contribute to the sport this year, but also the competent supervision of Coach Ryan and the friendly advice of Captain Bastian. 23. - One Hundred and Twenty-ive
