Sociely Basketball Squad Society Basketball GROUP OF ENTHUSIASTIC, hard-lighting Olympians secured delicious revenge for their ignominious defeat in Society Football last fall by snatching a five game basketball series from the Pythians for the intra-mural crown. The first game, which was the closest one of the season, was played on january 29th and was won by the Olympians by two foul shots in the last 30 seconds to play, 17-16. A'week later the Olympians again vanquished their traditional enemies, 24-20. On the 21st of February a determined Pythian quintet came from behind to take the third game, 27-23. Seven days after that the Olympians beat their opponents in an exciting struggle, 15-11. It was unnecessary to play the fifth game, as the Olmypians had cinched the series. The regular Pythian quin- tet usually consisted of Birke, Crowell, Ford, Haas, and Barron. The mainstays of the Olympians were Brewer, Van Voorhis, Pape, Burns, and Slingluff. After the Olympian-Pythian series the society players joined forces to complete the All-Society schedule, which had begun beforehand with games against Port Deposit, Gilman, and West Nottingham. Although the team was handicapped in these games on account of not having played together in practice, it won all of these games without particular difficulty. The Belair game was the only one played after the series was over, and the team showed up exceedingly well in this, after a little hard work had got the players working with each other. Birke and Brewer were the most consistent point scorers for the All-Society. One Hundred and Serfenleen

-fi 7 if Soccer HE TOME SOCCER TEAM emerged from the 1928-29 season, which was the most difficult and interesting ever endured in the school's history, with the good record of eight victories in the thirteen games played. The return of seven of last year's letter men and the ability early demonstrated by several new boys indicated excellent prospects at the outset. The obstacles which so often, as in this case, lie in the path of a success- ful season, sickness and ineligibility, were surmounted by the wise and spirited direction of Coach Pete Garrett and the untiring efforts of the twenty-five to thirty boys who comprised the squad. The strength of the second team was largely responsible for the polishing up of the regulars. The quality of individual playing was heightened to the extent of having several complimentary notices published in the Baltimore papers, accom- panied by pictures, and when the All-State selections were announced, it was found that three Tome players, Captain Ted Law, Harold Koppe, and Norman Hasson were alloted positions on the first and second teams. After only two days of practice the Tome men opened the season with a 3-1 victory over Havre de Grace High School. The work of Clagett and Earl, the latter scoring two goals, was outstanding. The Wolverines from Perryville High were next to be con- quered, but Tome's 1-0 victory came after inferior playing. A superior team from Beacom's Business College then dealt the Blue and White a crushing 3-0 defeat. Next followed a series of three games with overwhelming scores. The first was with Maryland State Normal, which had been tied the year before, the resulting score being 6 to 0. The Tomesters blanked Forest Park next and scored one less point than in the preceding game. Donaldson School's eleven met with a terrific defeat by the score of 9-Og then an acknowledged superior team, the Baltimore Soccer Club, lost out 3 to 1. The first major game of the season to be lost was probably the hardest, that with One Hundred and Nineteen
