A good number having turned out for each society, work was begun in earnest towards whipping the squads into some semblance of football teams. Again this year the Pythians worked under the able coaching of Mr. Garrett, while Mr. Kelbaugh took charge of the Olympians. The first game of the series was won by the Pythians, 7-0. Murphy played best in the backfield for the Pythians, while Ward was outstanding in the line. Hoagland, right end, was the only Olympian to show up well. The Pythians made it two straight by eking out a meager 6-0 victory. After scor- ing early in the last period by consistently-gaining line bucks, the Pythians found trouble in breaking up a desperate Olympian passing attack from Diggs and Harrell. A scoreless tie postponed the end of the series for another week. The Olympians displayed better football this game, but were threatened once each half by the Pythian buckets. The final game of the series resulted in a 12-0 victory for the Pythians. They outplayed their rivals throughout the game, and showed the scoring punch which they lacked the week before. Barr played excellent football for the Pythians, scoring both touchdowns. After the hnal society game of the season, the teams dropped their partisan rivalry and joined forces to form the All-Society. After a short week of practice together this group was matched against the 130-pound team, the outcome being a scoreless tie. The next game played by this aggregation was with the second varsity. Mr. Garrett's boys emerged victorious from this contest by the score of 13-0. The following week, however, the West Nottingham Academy varsity triumphed over them, 7-0. The final game of the season was played against the Gilman third team at Roland Park. Although the All-Society boys acquitted themselves most creditably throughout the contest, Gilman pushed the ball over the line at the end of the game, leaving the final score 12-9.
