The 1929 TRAIL as e bi tion were hampered by numerous penalties. The fact that Tome did not make a single first down is proof of its listless playing. Harden and Scott alone played well. It must be considered, however, that the Tome men were using a wholly new style of offence, to which they were not yet well accustomed. Emerson Institute was a 26-0 victim of the Tome gridmen in an encounter in which the whole squad was used, and the second team played poorly. Walser Hawtin, Jenness, and Koppe all played stellar roles, the latter accounting for two touchdowns. The next game was a practice affair with Aberdeen, which the Tomesters easily won, 27-7. In a steady downpour at Princeton Prep the Blue and White undertook its second contest away from home, that with Hill being the first, and lost 19-0. The Tome team Coach Klee One Hundred and Three
