Varsity Football , GLORIOUS defeat over Gilman in the last and most colorful game of the schedule brought this year's football season to a fairly successful close. Although Tome lost to Hill, Woodberry Forest, and Princeton Prep in the three other major contests, seven minor games were won making the total of eight victories in eleven games. With Captain Scott, former Captain Hite, and Koppe the only old letter men back as a nucleus, Coaches Klee and MacDonald were confronted at the outset with the task of molding into a competent machine the forty men who reported for the first practice Throughout the Fall the team proved somewhat temperamental, playing superb, mediocre, and poor football at various times. In the opening encounter, which was a 12-O victory over the 62nd Coast Artillery, the team displayed good form considering the fact that it had had only a week of prac- tice. Koppe and Dunlay scored the touchdowns. In the second game the Tomesters conquered the Wesley Collegiate Institute 32-6, showing a decided improvement. Koppe, the Blue and White's powerful and spectacu- lar half-back, was here outstanding, scoring four times. The Blue and White wave continued its onward roll in the next clash, brushing aside a light Swavely team by a 35-0 score. Seeming to suffer from the loss of Dunlay and Hire from the line up, the Tome aggregation played quite unsteadily. In a practice game preparatory to the Hill game at the end of the week Tome defeated Aberdeen 26-0. Tome's grid warriors met their first real opposition of the season in the important clash with Hill, being completely outplayed, outfought, and defeated 24-0 by their heavy, fast-charging opponents.
