1927 TRAIL 1927 In one of the most brtterly fought games seen herc rn years the Blue and Whrte eleyen agarn emerged trrumphant oyer Woodberry Forest on the 23d For three quarters the teams battled to a standstrll In the fourth quarter Nash broke through left tackle and dashed srxty y rrds for Woodberry s score On the krckoff wrth only a few mrnutes to plav Smith behrnd beautrful rnter fer ence coy ered erghteen chalk marks for a touchdown Chalmers added the pornt that w on the game One week later the hrghly touted Baltrmore Poly eley en was smoth ered by a powerful and fightrng Tome team Crashrng the tackles and sweeprng the ends our backs could not be stopped The lrne put up a stone wall defense and the backfield crushed the aerral attack of the losers Rrchards plays a great game Shea Chalmers and Hagerty tore huge gaps rn the lrne Srxteen first doyvns were regrstered to Poly s four Thrs was the second yrctory towards the State Champronshrp The followrng Saturdav the Tome eleyen was doyy ned bv Lawrence offense and therr forward wall presented a well nrgh rmpregnable defense Vlahaffy s defensrve work and Shea s lrne buckrng were the only outstand rng preces of work on the team On November 13th the Sway ely team from Manassas Va was swamped 42 0 Coach Klee used both first and second teams durrng the game The Tome backs garned at wrll and the defense was arrtrght The game was rather looselv play ed berng a slrght let up before the final tussle wrth G1l'nan The Blue and Whrte wound up therr season wrth a fine yrctory oyer the Grlman Country School of Baltrmore 21 3 A large crowd yy as present to watch our team crash rts w ay to yrctory for the Maryland State cham pronshrp The Grlmanrtes held the Kleemen on eyen terms the first half but the Tome grrdmen began the second half 'r changed team On the krckoff Ixoppe took the ball from Hagerty on a cut back and galloped 85 yards for a touchdown wrth perfect rnterfer ence Then the tefrm started a seyenty five yard drrye whrch ended wrth Chalmers plungrng the last fifteen yards for another score Agarn Chalmers standrrrff at mrd freld threw a beautrful pass to Hoke on the 25 yard lrne who raced the rem un rng drstance for the thrrd touchdown Chalmers added all three pornts on drop krcks The whole team rs to be prarsed on rts showrrrg The lrne yyork was splendrd and the backs drsplay ed a fast runnrng attack Too much cr edrt cannot be gry en Coach Ollre Klee The Tome mentor developed a great team and rts success rs largely due to hrm Pace 8 7 4QH:,, f-if f ' :ii i-i-+1 '1::gf-+f ,if: Ilfo- ' - v y . .
