B' Swzmmzng HE swxmmlng team IS one of which Tome may well be proud as It numbers among 1ts members two men of All Amer1can Scholastlc cahber and but for the mlsfortune of two technlcalltles and a dlS qual1ficat1on would have won both the Yale Natlonal and Columbia Natlonal Scholast1c meets both of wh1ch were lost by a s1ngle pomt Much of the credlt for such a successful season IS due equally to Pat Ryan and to Edward Scherer The former as coach has ra1sed the team from one of state champlonshlp lmportance to one that IS an outstandlng figure 1n natlonal compet1t1on the latter has been promlnent by ylrtue of h1S swlmmlng ln eyery meet of the season Other swlmmers deservmg of speclal mentlon are Armstrong Smlth and K1lpatr1ck who Wlth Scherer were the membels of Tomes lelav team These swlmmers ln Wlllfllng the 200 yard relay at the Yale meet equalled the scholastlc record The record tlme of 1 41 2 5 has noyy been made by Tome Mercersburg Academy and Atlantlc Clty H1gh School The outlook for the first meet of the season was not promlsmg be cause several of those on the team yye1e 1nel1g1ble Hovsever although the tlmes were not partlcularly fast Tome swamped Loyola by the score of 50 12 In thls meet J W1se won the 220 yard svum 1n fast tlme showlng promlse of developmg 1nto a star at thls dlstance for future Tome teams Forty three to nmeteen sy as the score of the dual meet yy 1th Baltlmoxe Poly a week latel Kllpatrlck was st1ll 1nel1g1ble f0l th1s meet and his absence was felt The most outstandlng feat of thls meet xy as A1 mstlong s smmmmg of the 50 yald dash ln the except1onally fast tlme of 2-1 2 5 11109101 I . .
