C LASS IPROPI-IEC Y
One afternoon in August, 1959, I found myself in my little Ford on my way to
the train station at Bucyrus, Ohio. I wanted to spend the winter where it was warm,
so I purchased a ticket for California. I had to hurry to catch the train as it was about
time for it to leave.
I found a seat by the window so I could have a good view of the scenery, for I
knew I had a long ride ahead of me. I got tired of watching the scenery so I went to
the dinning car as I was getting rather hungry. There were no empty seats so I asked
a young lady if she would mind if I sat with her. She said she had no objections so I
sat down and we were having a friendly conversation when all of the sudden it came to
my mind that I had seen her some place else. I asked her what her name was and I
could have fainted when she told me she was CordySchiefer, and old classmate of mine,
back at good old Tiro.
"Where are you going," I asked Cordy? i
Cordy replied, "I'm going to Denver, Colorado, but I'll only be there a couple
of days. I was chosen as one of the best softball players in the U. S."
"Would you like to go to California with me after the game is over, "I asked.
Cordy replied, "I will, providing you stay in Denver with me."
We stayed at the Ziz-Z ag Hotel in Denver. When we went into the hotel a young
lady met us at the door.
"Well, if it isn't Effie Zeigler!" We exclaimed. We talked to Effie about our
good old times back in school.
"Have you seen any of our classmates since we graduated," I asked.
Effie said, "I have seen Marlin Cole a few times and he owns the 'Harmony
Valley Ranch' just out of town."
Early the next morning Effie, C ordy, and I went to the ranch to see Marlin. We
didn't stay very long as Cordy had to be back to play in the afternoon softball game.
After the game was over, we went to the hotel to pack our things because we had
decided to take a.n airplane to California instead of the train. We were to catch the plane
at 8:30 p.m.
Once again we were on our way. When the airline hostess showed us to our
quarters we found ourselves face-to-face with Marjorie B aker. Cordy and I went to the
ladies' lounge because we were rather tired. We were surprised again when Marjorie
came and told us that the Co-pilot wanted to see us. We were relieved very much when
we saw Charles Magers, was the Co-pilot. We talked with Marjorie and Charles for a
while.
A The next morning Marjorie came and told us it was about time for us to get off.
Marjorie asked to stay at her house and we accepted.
That night I made a suggestion that we go to a show or something. We started to
look through the papers to see what was on.
