George Smith-47 Bob Wingerter-43 Trojans Show Strength Akron Ellet Timken's untested Trojans entered their l953 campaign by nipping Akron Ellet 6-O. Using a potent aerial attack and some tricky lateral plays the Troymen were led by quarterback John Hiben and end Les Macris. They scored their lone marker in the first minutes of the game. Toledo Macomber Toledo Macomber's superior speed in the backfield paved the way for a 14-7 victory over the surprised Timken Trojans. Timken's score came after a 78-yard march with George Smith going over from the one. In the last quarter, end Les Macris snagged a pass on the 12-yard stripe but the Trojan attack sputtered and Ma- comber ran off the field with their victory. McKinley ln a game where defensive play was outstand- ing, Timken's Trojans out-fought, out-gained, and out-charged the Bulldogs from McKinley only to find themselves at the short end of a 6-O score. Timken's passing attack was bright but the'Troymen were always stopped short of the goal. Timken Drubs Salem The fighting Trojans routed the Salem Quak- ers 27-7 in a thrilling game. Timken started slowly but shifted into high later in the first period. Timken scored in every quarter but the last. Touchdowns were scored by Macris, Smith, Burke, Barnes: Wyler kicked three out of four attempts for the extra points. For Future Quakers Remain Undefeated The New Philly Quakers handed the Trojans their third loss of the season, winning a hard fought victory 13-O. Timken's defensive team played excellent ball by holding the New Philly team scorelessg the touchdowns were scored against our offensive team. Touchdowns were scored on a punt return and an interception. Lehman Downs the Trojans In a game in which Timken played much bet- ter than the score read, the Polar Bears gave our Trojans a drubbing. Timken's defensive machine did very well but failed to stop Nifty Nick as the Polar Bears outscored the Trojans 38-6. Timken Drubs Ashtabula The Timken Trojans came to life early in this game to set a new scoring mark in the school's history by downing Ashtabula 54-7. The Trojans scored in every guarterg touchdowns were made by Tatarides, Hiben, Burke, Spear, Donohue, Balbo, and DiGiacomo, Wyler converted on six out of eight attempts. Ravenna Upsets Favored Trojans After playing an outstanding game against Ashtabula Timken's Trojans fell to the wayside when they met a strong hard-hitting Ravenna team, who beat the favored Trojans l9-O. Lincoln Romps Over Trojans In the annual Timken-Lincoln duel, the Lions romped over the Trojans. Although the score was in the Trojans favor 7-6 at half time, the Lincolnites came back with six straight tallies to make the final score 39-7. Timken's lone touchdown was a Hiben to Macris pass. Wyler booted the extra point. TD SWEEPl Mike Burke takes off around end er taking a hand off from quarterback Iohn en. 99 PUNT! The Trojans kick their way out of danger.
