Because of your overwhelming help and love, the Senior Class of 1987 would like to dedicate our yearbook to you. When we fell down, you were always there to pick us up. You taught us to be firm believers and to stand and fight for what we wanted. We would like to thank you for being kind and understanding and for just being there when we needed you. Most of all we would like to thank you for helping us become mature, responsible adults. Thank you for being the beautiful person you are. We hope that this letter will always remind you of all the good, but trying, times that we have shared in the past four years with you! Thank you for your guidance, support, courage, and love!! Love. Mr. Thompson. A member of the high school faculty for 27 years, he was not just another teacher; he was a friend to many and respected by all. Mr. Thompson dedicated himself to a variety of jobs within the district. He taught business, filled in as principal, and coached golf. For a number of years, he served as president of the TTA (Ticonderoga Teachers Association). and chairman of the business department. Mr. Thompson had a genuine love for students and went out of his way to accomodate everyone. His kindness and generosity were overwhelming. On the first of September 1986. Mr. Thompson was diagnosed as having a terminal case of cancer, with only 3 to 6 months to live. He dealt with this situation as he had with every other obstacle in his life: straight on. accepting his condition and pain without bitterness. A devout member of his faith, he relied on his church for guidance. Rather than withdrawing from the outside world. Mr. Thompson remained active. Although he had to retire from the high school, he continued to teach at North Country Community College. Also, he had a long-held goal of piloting a Lake George Steamboat and realized this dream in the last 3 weeks of the season. After visiting his brother in Arkansas. Mr. Thompson toured New Orleans as a guest of the steamboat company. He was very open about his condition, yet never once let himself wallow in self-pity. Every moment at home or in the hospital, he tried to be a model patient to ease the burdens of others. When you visited, you approached with trepidation: what do you talk about? You can’t say. Get well soon! But. Mr. Thompson made it very clear you were not seeing a dying man. You simply talked about whatever you talked about before, baseball, fishing, hunting, golf. ... and your pity and sorrow were stripped away. That was the greatest gift he could have given, the freeing of others from their painful burdens. In a very real way he has never retired from teaching, by giving us a role model on which we might base our own lives. Mr. Thompson, our friend and colleague, will always hold a special place in our hearts. We truly regret not having his presence during this special time in our lives.
