DEDICATION Dear Mr. Cembalski, As our senior year quickly comes to a close, we realize that our years in high school were not as bad as we thought they would be, thanks to you. The purpose of the yearbook is to serve as a reminder of the “best years of our lives.” In dedicating the 1978 Carillon to you, Mr. Cembalski, we hope that you will remember our years together. Thank you for your guidance and support. Love, The Class of 1978 Dear Ms. Cardoza, Many long, hard hours were spent putting this yearbook together. As every deadline approached, we thought we’d never get it finished! But deep down inside, we all knew it would be a success. To say, “thank you” for your help, patience, and support would just be a start. We dedicate this part of our yearbook to you, Ms. Cardoza, in the hopes that you realize how much we appreciate your help. Kolysko. 69 A 4 I really think that being an A.F.S. student is something special. I am enjoying every minute of my life. But that doesn’t mean that it is easy to be such a student; in fact, it isn’t at all. Imagine leaving all of your friends and your safe house and going with thirty pounds of clothes in your suitcase to live in somebody else’s house. Imagine going to a strange school full of strangers. That’s what 1 did. 1 used the past tense “did” because now this strange house is my home; the school and the people are familiar to me. 1 must say that I’m very happy. My American family is great and everyone is very kind and friendly. Ticonderoga is very different from my own community which is Lugano in southern Switzerland. It isn’t only different because here people speak English and because 1 am in the United States separated from my native home by a great ocean; but because I am also living in quite a small town in the heart of nature that will soon be covered with a thick, white, coat of snow. All that is new to me as 1 come from a city where in winter, I see at most, a few inches of snow for a couple of days. One of the main differences I’ve faced is the school. It may sound funny to you when I tell you that 1 had never heard terms like, “senior,” “junior,” “freshman,” etc. or expressions like being an A, B, or C student before. And I had no idea what kind of game football or basketball was. I’ll never forget this year in my life. I • U • - 70 71 Vapsits Glab R-l S. Gunning, P. LaRock, T. Karkoski, D. Hills, S. Lawson, R.
