Class History Most of the members of the Class of '56 came together ln Kindergarten at Central School. However, in l9hh many of the boys and girls separated to go to the first grade-some groups ln our local schools, as well as those from Putnam, Chilson, Streetroad, South Tie, and also those who had since come from other towns. These groups started the historic records of the Class of 1953, not knowing what lay before them but eager to learn. For four years followed the same pattern as the first year. In the fifth grade we met together for the first time since Kindergarten and had the addition of Dick Blood. Each of us was a little more acquainted with what was expected. Our sixth year saw the addition of Barbara Coley and Patty Dowd. Seventh and Eighth the same amount of a little more in the Eighth grade because of graduation. Anne Warren, whom we have since lost, was the valedictorlan and Marjorie Wisell, the salutatorian, from Ticonderogag Ruth King, valedictorian, and Gladys Borden, salutatorlan, from Putnam, and Joyce McLaughlin, valedlctorlan, and Dawn torlan, from Streetroad. grades were both UHQCFEERCU with almost enthusiasm and zest but perhaps there was Sharrow, saluta- We became what is now the Class of 1956, losses and a few gains in our Freshman year still ngreenn and at first it was hard for us wlth both high school life and the members of came in from other schools. Under the guidance of Miss Cook, who was to be our class adviser for the next four years, and with Richard Arthur, Joseph Malaney, Patty Dowd, and Marjorie Wlsell as class officers, we undertook such activities as selling seeds, Christmas cards, Miner, a member of our c which was to occur each of which have been very and John Hall were lost addition. except for a few . We also had a big success with our Twirp Dance this year. Kenneth Phelps and Fred LaPann were our only additions but we lost Patty Dowd and Gladys Borden. the selling of sweatshirts designed very successful sellers, were continued ol banners and every day cards were sold With Joseph Malaney, Anne Thompson, Jane Burleigh and Marjorie Wisell as our class officers, our third year was a busy, yet successful one. Our Junior plays and our Junior Prom, of which the theme was nAn Evening in Parls,n were just two examples of how well we worked together as a group, not only for money but also for pleasure. We also, for the first time, were able to sell candy at football games and after school. In this year we were very unhappy to lose Doris Barnaby, Betty Welch, Anne Warren, Tommy Nadeau, Donald Schryer, Raymond Lnyder, and Pat C'Connor. Then, we finally reached the last plateau with these class officers: William Benway, Joseph Malaney, Marjorie Wisell, and Anne Thompson. Occupied by such activities as our Senior Play, our Christmas Dance, the candy room, which we inherited from the Class of 1955, the selling of cards and stationery, and also the selling of candy at basketball games, we were still able to find the time and energy to plan the two activities which had been our main goal since our Freshman year-our yearbook and our Senior Trip.
