22 VS-38 With the deployment of the USS Ticonderoga and Air Anti-Submarine Squadron Thirty-Eight KVS-381 to the Western Pacific it marked the twelfth Western Pacific deployment for VS-38 since its commissioning in 1950. The primary mission of VS-38 is the detection, localization, classification and, if necessary, the destruction of enemy submarines. As part of Commander Carrier Air Anti-Submarine Group Fifty-Nine, the squadron accomplishes its mission from the deck of the Tico, ranging to all areas of the Pacific Ocean.
