Few skills are more demanding than those in the navigation field for the men who travel the sea roads and other areas of the vast oceans.l I The safe and accurate piloting of the USS Ticonderoga is the primary function of the Navigation Department. To support this function and to insure the accurate plotting of the ships position requires the use of many aids to navigation including the use of celestial, visual and numerous electronic means. I The most modern electronic aid to navigation is the ANXSRN-9 Satellite Navigation system, affectionately dubbed Henry , Henry provides the most precise means of fixing a ships position yet devised by man. N Division which is composed of men of the quartermaster rate performs control functions including QMOW, navigation, plotting, precision steering required while at sea detail, alongside other ships for unreps and while in restricted waters.
