To most people, the name Auxiliaries Division brings to mind a Broken-down air conditioner or the time it was -30 degrees outside and the steam heat system refused to steam. But A Division's job is not just limited to the maintenance of air conditioning and steam heat equipment. Aircraft elevators, Diesel engines, catapults, air compressors, machine shop and Nitrogen 85 Oxygen producing plants all fall under the responsibility of this 68-man division. The Boilers or B Division is the largest division on Ticonderoga. It is composed of the Evaporator Gang, Oil and Water Testing Lab-personnel, Boiler Repair and the Fireroom personnel. The Evaporator Gang is in charge of the ship's three evaporators which distill all the fresh and feed Water used by the ship. The Oil and Water Testing Laboratory is responsible for testing, treatment, distribution and stowage of the fresh and feed' water. They are also responsible for the testing, distribution, stowage and delivery of N. S. F. O. or Black Oil . The remaining men in the division are involved in the operation and maintenance of the ships eight M type boilers which produce the steam used to run the ship's four main engine turbines, The four ships service turbo-generators, all the steam auxiliary pumps and equipment, the steam cata- pults, the steam used for steam heat, hot water tanks, and galley equipment. B division is also responsible for the preservation and maintenance of spaces and equip- ment from tanks and voids in the deepest part of the ship up to the watch cap on the stack. A The 140 men in B division perform many of the basic yet most vital jobs on the ship including the handling of N. S. F.
