V-3 The forty-four cave-men of V-3 Division have the responsibility for the largest, and probably the most-used space of the ship. In port it is a focal point through which most activities must pass, including the striking aboard of all supplies, spare parts and other such cargo, and the first view to all who come aboard. At sea it is the hub of aircraft maintenance activity. The primary duty of hangar men is moving aircraft in this space, which, though appearing awesomely large, provides very confined quarters for all the aircraft and equipment which must be stored there. In addition, the cave crew is ready at all times to combat the dangerous aircraft fires, which can rapidly cripple the ship. Of course there is the never-ending work of cleaning, sweepdowns and preservation in the largest of the ships spaces. BOTTOM ROW L'R, AN W.R. Kayter, AN GJ. Meyers, ABHI C.A. Flynn, ABH2 .I.T.
